curved 1440p monitor recommendations ?

hey guys,

I never pay attention to curved displays as they never appealed to me, but my GF is insistent on having one. so here I am. current monitor is a 24” 1440p 144hz tn panel from Dell.

she has a gtx 1070 in the system. so cant really push a 4k display or 1440p ultra wide. so I'm looking for a 27”, 1440p 144 or 120 hz, va or ips. I know the g7 is decent as long as their claims of fixing issues are true, but the monitor curve is way to steep for the size as for the g9 I dont think a 1070 would push that display enough. not to mention the price is crazy high.

I have a 1070 in one of my PCs and this MSI monitor is what I use. It is a little bigger, but I quite like it.

the best curved monitor without an overly aggressive curve would be the 34gn850-b, the dell version has better contrast but also cost 1200usd, short of that i dont think the g7 and g9 is worth its premium (do you need 240hz), there was also at least 2 instances of fire with the g7 or g9. 

 

If you are using a tn, the MAG322CQR  is already a huge upgrade for 400usd.

I can recommend AW3520dw. The screen is so bright color very vibrant. It’s a ips panel also 

g9 is trash unless you race 

the GPU wont push an ultra wide vary well. not to mention 34” is just to big for the space.

2cqr seen to perform very poorly with lower fps (60 to 100 fps). it appears that it either has bad response time 15-20ms or really bad inverse ghosting. thoughts??

I haven't noticed terrible ghosting in my time using the monitor. Plus, the relatively cheap price and regular sales totally negate my small quarrels with it.

im ok with paying more. maybe me mention the price of the g7 threw people off. i just think the g7 is a bad deal for what it is.

what games and fps are you at? as from what i can tell the monitor is fine for 120plus. but most title with fast animations suffer under 100 fps. the most demanding game she play regularly would probably be vermintide 2. which keeps her around 70 75 fps.

I play CS:GO and get great fps ~150fps or so on medium to high settings, Divinity Original Sin 2, FATE, and Dead Cells pretty regularly. All of those look pretty good. I mainly consume a lot of video and read on this PC.

 

Now, I also have my switch hooked up to it to play BOTW. I believe it is capped at 60fps, and I haven't noticed any issues with ghosting on faster animations like link taking out the paraglider. Though, I suppose that could be due to the art style of the game. 

 

No, I am not currently using gsync. I have before, but I switched back to linux from windows and haven't used gsync in a while.

yea all of those push over 120 so probably wouldn't see any issue.

If the g7 is too curved for you, you could look at the Samsung LC27HG70, it has a more gentle 1800R curve instead of a 1000R. Although it is "only" 144Hz instead of 240Hz.

its suffer the same way with poor response times and cloudy blacks. a bit less ghosting,but a mix bag when it comes to gsync

I actually just bought a g7 and im pretty pleased with it. 

 

I bought it so that I'd have the option of running some games at lower settings and higher fps. Hunt showdown I can now get anywhere from 170 to 215fps with my setup.

 

I also still have the option if course to play high settings, so things like control, I play on ultra and get around 65 to 90fps.

 

With all these, I haven't had any issues with flickering with gsync enabled, although I did update the firmware as soon as I got it. 

 

Colours are much better than my old TN panel, and I haven't noticed any loss in performance in terms of input lag or response time. UFO test actually looks better on this than my old tn panel.

 

I think it's a great monitor for the price, and even if you can't make use of the 1440p 240hz right now, at least it's a good investment ready for when you upgrade later. A monitor like this is all about options. You can still run games at lower res, lower colour range, lower refresh rate and fps if you want/ need too, but it gives you the freedom to choose upto 1440p, hdr, 240hz. You can pick and choose, based on the game you're playing. When you consider that a 4k screen with proper 1000 nit hdr AND 144hz will set you back nearly 2 grand, 500 quid for this is still a great deal, and I can't see many games running brilliantly at 4k, even with my 3070, and with a 27 inch screen, I don't think you need above 1440p. In my opinion, above 27 inch is too big for regular gaming anyway, unless you're sat further away, couch gaming.

i gave in got a 27" g7. i got a deal on it i couldn't pass. it was 530$ after tax and shipping for open box . sooooo yea that just happened..... we will see how this goes
