RX580 ram upgrade service

Crackmonkey

serious question..
street price on an 8GB RX 580 is now around $500
street price on an 4GB RX580 is now around $250
the RAM chips themselves MAYBE cost $20

how is no dude with the right equipment and free time offering a $100 ram upgrade?
who always gets rich during a gold rush?

Because RAM chips on GPUs are soldered onto the PCB. Often times the lower RAM GPUs don't have the connectors needed to solder chips, and even if they did, the card would likely have various issues and in some cases the firmware might brick the card.

I mean, if you are so confident that it can be done, why don't you do it? Because to me it seems like it's nearly impossible to do period, and even if you could technically it would pose a high risk of damaging the card.

So you just read the first sentence of his reply, eh?

Have at it, hotshot. Make that cheddar.

Corps aren't your friends. "Bottleneck calculators" are BS. Only suckers buy based on brand. It's your PC, do what makes you happy.  If your build meets your needs, you don't need anyone else to "rate" it for you. And talking about being part of a "master race" is cringe. Watch this space for further truths people need to hear.

no his response doesn't make sense or dollars

the PCB is exactly the same on most PCB between the 4GB and 8GB models
you would need to remove the 4 1GB chips and replace them with 4 2GB modules
then reflash the bios
it aint rocket science

Experts make things look easy. Just because an expert can do it doesn't mean that anyone who has the equipment can, and even if they are physically capable of it, they would rather not take that risk.

The problem is the drivers.

You gotta not only be an ace at the "hot station" (reflow machine?) you also need to be a master hacker (lol)

Do you not understand?

The margin for error is too large out of 10 card only one would succeed, and even so constant crashes bluescreens and bad performance is going to be present.

Not to mention vram is so fast, that if it's not precisely soldered (by a robot)then it's going to not operate correctly due to the large amount of imperfections.
