Need help with BIOS flashback

Go to solution Solved by Azade12,

SOLUTION: 😫😫😫😫😫😫😫😫😫😫😫😫😫😫😫😫😫😫😫😫😫😫😫😫😫😫😫😫😫😫😫😫😫😫😫😫😫😫😫😫😫😫😫😫😫😫

I HAD TO REINSTERT MY GPU. I TOOK IT OUT OF THE PCIe SLOT AND REINSERTED IT. IT WORKS NOW.

TAKE A LOOK AT THE REST OF THE THREAD. REMEMBER WHEN YOU ARE FLASHING YOUR BIOS, DO NOT UNPLUG OR INTERRUPT THE UPDATE OR YOU CAN DESTROY YOUR MOTHERBOARD.

I LOVE YOU GUYS 😄

I need help flashbacking my BIOS to support Ryzen 5000 series. I just built my computer and realized it needs to be updated. I've tried to do the BIOS flashback via a USB drive, but nothing has happened and there still is no post. Please help

You can start by telling us which mobo this is and how exactly you did the flashback.

ASUS TUF GAMING B550M-PLUS (WiFi 6)

I took a 256G FAT32 flash drive and renamed the CAP file. I pressed the flash bios button but it's been on a black screen for the last 20 minutes.

From your manual:

BIOS FlashBackTM button. Press the BIOS FlashBackTM button for three seconds until the FlashBackTM LED blinks three times, indicating that the BIOS FlashBackTM function is enabled.

That's true, however there is no FlashBack LED on the IO. It is just the button. I'm seriously stumped why it isn't included. Every other video I've seen has had an LED of some sort.. I've looked around my MOBO and the only LEDS are under the ram sticks (BOOT, VGA, CPU, DRAM) The boot light is green, and the VGA is white. CPU and DRAM is off. I hear beeps when I turn on the computer.

Try another USB.

I have 2 USBs with fat32 but only one worked.

I also did the flashback with only the power connected to the board. So no CPU, GPU, ram installed.

If nothing return the board. It may be DOA.

I bought a Crosshair Hero VIII for my R7 5800x build and the first USB I tried did not work. The light was steady and not blinking. The second USB I tried blinked for about 5 minutes like it worked but no post. I assumed the board was DOA so I returned it. The ASUS board was out of stock so I went with a Aorus Master and it took the flash and booted right up.

Make sure you are using the CORRECT USB port for the BIOS Flashback function. You cannot just use ANY USB port; there is one specifically for flashing the BIOS. Check the motherboard user manual for which one it is.

What did you rename the .CAP file to??

i just realized that u have to do it when the system is off smh. it needs to be plugged in but you dont turn in the power button lmao.

I'm doing it now, and the light is there and flashing, it's flashing because I hit the bios flash button while plugged in, but not powered on, and the light is flashing now. my mobo has a tricky mobo light led it isnt very apparent in the io port.

i finished it once but it still isnt turning on. i am going to try it again without removing the flashdrive after it is done flashing smh

Yeah, the computer should be powered off (i.e. Shutdown through Windows, etc).

What did you  save the .CAP file as?

Did you extract / unzip the BIOS folder, and put ONLY the BIOS file into the USB stick?

Basically, blank formatted USB stick, with JUST the renamed .CAP file on it.

Yep, .CAP. It's the only file inside. FAT32. Renamed .CAP using the tool. I have no idea what's going on.

What version BIOS did you download?

Did you grab the beta (version 2201), the latest stable release (version 2006), or an older one?

Just going through other threads, there are people saying USB sticks that are also too large tend to run into some issues, too...

Yea! I used the beta 2201 unfortuately but realized that and tried again with the stable 2006 version.

The issue might stem from my flash drive. It is 256Gb, seeing that's pretty large. 😐

I tried using my 16G flash drive. Still nothing. I don't know if this is normal or not, but the monitor turns on like it is ready for something when I start the computer, but it recieves no signal whatsoever. Could it be my graphics card?

I HAD TO REINSTERT MY GPU. I TOOK IT OUT OF THE PCIe SLOT AND REINSERTED IT. IT WORKS NOW.

TAKE A LOOK AT THE REST OF THE THREAD. REMEMBER WHEN YOU ARE FLASHING YOUR BIOS, DO NOT UNPLUG OR INTERRUPT THE UPDATE OR YOU CAN DESTROY YOUR MOTHERBOARD.

I LOVE YOU GUYS 😄

isn’t unplugging the gpu interrupting it? and can you unplug the usb when it is still flashing?
