RX 6700XT worth getting or overpriced?

Meatbrick
Go to solution Solved by Chris Pratt,

If these were normal times and you could walk into any store and just grab whatever GPU you like at MSRP, no, the 6700XT would not be worth it at all. These are not normal times, though, so it's a decent alternative to 30-series Nvidia cards, if you can't get you hands on one of those, but can get a 6700XT.

It's not a *bad* card, it's just that even the lower end Nvidia 30-series cards are better, and *should* cost the same or less.

That said $1200 is absolutely insane. Virtually no card is worth that, and I'm looking at you 3090, which is actually supposed to retail at that price.

Hello!

Complete newb to computer building but I've been a fan of LTT for years. Have been planning building my first computer in a while and ironically I planned to do it around 2020/21. Being well aware of the GPU shortage I frequently search online and today I managed to find a "ASRock Radeon RX 6700XT Challenger Pro OC" in stock.

This is the Swedish website I found it on ASRock Radeon RX 6700XT Challenger Pro 12GB OC - ASRock Radeon RX 6700XT Challenger Pro OC (netonnet.se) Price is roughly 1222 USD. This is the only GPU I've found that's in stock on a website for months.

What I'm wondering is if it's terribly overpriced / worth getting, watching AMD has got to be kidding - Radeon 6700 XT Review - YouTube scared me a bit so I'm turning to the forums for any second opinion. Since I lack the expertise I havent really put a build together, using PCpartpicker in Europe has been a confusing experience. Grateful for any advice!

Under normal circumstances this would be $299-349 Edit: Maybe 399 once retailing.. But no more! 😄 😞 🤑 Here the cheapest 6700 xt (XFX Merc 3) is listed for 909 usd with 2-3 days of delivery.. Still way to expensive imo.

That's just too much! Back on 2nd January, I'd paid about 1350USD (local $ to USD at the time) and I'd though I was paying too much, but it was for a Sapphire Nitro+ RX 6900 XT in my sig. So, looking back, the price I'd paid for my card looks pretty reasonable. Honestly though, and I'm an AMD fanboy, paying scalper's pricing of 1222USD for a card that's 3 notches below mine is just too much, save your cash.
