How to backup a boot drive?

PointFive

So I want to reinstall my Windows because of some minor issue with the taskbar crashing and other minor issues. I was wondering whether there is a way to backup installed applications from the boot-drive? Or can you simply just copy paste the contents of "Program Files" and "Program Files (x86)" to another drive and move it on the fresh install of Windows?

Additional note; I do not keep any files within the boot-drive that requires any backup, only applications. I am just too lazy to reinstall all the application again and to configure each application it the way I have it currently.

Thank you, have a nice day peeps!

You can try to repair Windows first, there's an option that keeps apps

I'm willing to swim against the current.

didn't work 😞 tried it just now. It says it was unable to diagnose the problem

You can save the configuration files and pate those back in. Or better, use existing export tools to backup settings on software which have such functions.

But if you want to do fresh install, that means you need to reinstall software too. Or some of them. You can copy-paste some software. This means that they won't be shown in Start Menu or Remove Software list. In Windows eyes, they do not exist since there's no registry info about them. And because there's no registry entries, some software will not work. Notably Office software.

-> Moved to Windows

I meant reinstall with keeping Apps. There're many reinstall alternatives from Microsoft

I'm willing to swim against the current.
