Really hot backplate on my Maximus VIII Formula

alexander.o

As the title says, the backplate for my CPU cooler (NH-D15S) is real hot. I don't have a thermometer, but I'd say about 45-50C.

Anyone got a clue why it could be so hot?

My CPU is overclocked (6700K), but it draws less than 100 W according to Intel Power meter. I have a R9 290X, that is hotter than a volcano, but I can't see how that would make the backplate hot.

Tips appreciated!

It's normal, some of the heat produced by the CPU will radiate to the back of the socket.

That's what I thought. It just seemed odd as I never noticed that before. Thanks!

Do you think it's safe for the backplate to be kinda hot?

Yes,It takes a lot more than 50C to damage it.
