Posted April 5, 2021 (edited) My whole bedroom is my setup, "A research lab in the making, with next to zero budget". ~80% of the contents are 2nd hand, with ~95% of the tech being 2nd or 3rd hand (including dumpster diving). As for the desktop, I intend to replace my dying AsRock H97M with a 2nd hand Asus H97/Z97 Pro Gamer (I need the I/O, the rest depends on the budget) from AliExpress (unless I find a cheaper source) next month (if I will have the budget), the overheating (I overcame this with new paste, and severe throttling) Sapphire HD6950 with a 2nd hand Sapphire HD7700 GHz Edition from a friend's repair shop (or whatever I am able to get for OpenCL, once I have the budget) whenever I'll be able to afford it (not expensive, but next to no budget, and not having much success in finding a source of income), and whenever I'll have the funds for it, a 5th Gen Intel Core i5 (since Haswell is being deprecated in a broken fashion (regarding OpenCL) from Intel's support). My Lenovo IdeaPad 300-15ISK is also gutted, until the AliExpress who sold me the new motherboard manages to get it's heatsink to me (When the battery connector broke, I used the opportunity to upgrade to a dGPU motherboard, and the seller forgot the heatsink at first). Other than that, no SSD here, for lack of funds, with the largest drives being my old 1TB 5400RPM HDD that came with the laptop, and a 1TB Barracuda Pro (with a copper heatsink plate to fill up the empty space, of course , this drive really heats up inside a laptop, easily getting to 45-50°C without one, and even then, power savings need to be enabled). There are 12 HDDs. 10 of which are 3.5", inside the case (Antec P9, with one of the covers, usually both, removed for easy access), which officially can hold up to 8 3.5" HDDs and 2 2.5" HDDs. The Dell monitor is currently the main one, with the (partially fixed, unable to source parts to fully fix) LG monitor serving as a temporary second, until I fix a few 1200p and 1080p Samsung monitors. And no, that is not an Apple Watch (for some reason I have been asked this a few times), that is a (1st hand) PineTime, from the earlier production cycles that still came with a locked and closed-source bootloader from the factory (hence the tape, which is holding it very nicely). I do need the budget to replace all of my outlets with universal outlets, and hook up a 6-socket splitter (again, universal) with a 5-meter cable (technically, I need slightly over 4.5M), which is impossible in my country (only up to 3M is being manufactured for our country), so will have to go for one from AliExpress with a UK plug (way safer than what we use here, in any case), which will allow me to switch the location of the desktop PC to the other edge of the desk(s) (which will also greatly improve WiFi reception (old house, with 0 RJ-45 ports in the thick (some of which are concrete) walls, I am planning to change that however, with my Brocade switch playing a part in that)). I also intend to move my shelves to the wall above the other side of the desk(s), and bolt on protectors to prevent my books from falling over the edges. Additionally, I am going to need to replace the wardrobe with a custom built one (the room is shaped like a right-angle trapezoid), and custom drawers for the center corner of the desk(s) (hopefully also build a bed that folds onto the wall, to maximize space when working on projects that require the center of the (rather small) room. The LG HomBot (obtained via dumpster diving) is in need of a new battery, as well as investigation into why it's brushes get stuck at times. Not shown, is my Brocade FastIron FCX648S-HPOE which I bought last year, and which I am using to learn towards my CCNA and CCNP exams, as well as tools and parts inside the Ikea Alex drawers (also 2nd hand, as is the table(s), which I am still trying to get the rest of the parts for, so that I could properly set it up). Some items are not mine, but rather are items which are waiting to be repaired by me before being returned to their respective owners (family members and friends, I do not want to do payed work for my family and close friends). I dare you Linus and Co. to roast not just this setup, but the whole endeavor, which has been ongoing for several years due to limited funds and me being reluctant to rely on others for monetary (especially pricey) matters. By the way, these pictures were taken with a 2nd hand Razer Phone 2 (one of the last relatively normal phones that have been manufactured in the last few years, add a 3.5mm jack and an IR blaster, and the design consideration of newer phones become pure garbage) that I had bought a few months back, that strangely enough, I am having issues getting anything other than the stock ROM to boot. Posted April 6, 2021 It's hard to find an angle that perfectly captures the BS that is my setup, but here we go. Westward facing window 4 computers and a Raspberry Pi. From left to right, work laptop, plex server (old gaming PC), new gaming PC, wife's PC, pi-hole. My wife's PC isn't even under her desk because there's no room. 3 routers (2 are WiFi APs now), 2 switches, and a modem. My work setup has a dedicated mouse, keyboard, microphone, and webcam using my gaming PC's secondary monitor (I switch inputs to game). 2 barely visible power strips AND 2 UPCs because of all the (unmanaged) cables My older gaming consoles connect to an AV/component switch that connects to a set of splitters directly into the TV and an AV/component-HDMI converter, which connects to an HDMI switch which connects to my 4k capture card over a 14' cable then back over another 14' cable to the TV. Whatever ends up on my desk kinda just stays there until I clean up (including the tax documents you, thankfully, can't read in the pic. And, yes, I chose not to move my flight yoke to type this whole comment with my keyboard directly under my monitor.
 Posted April 7, 2021 I don't think this really belongs in this competition but I wanted to share the struggle anyway. I built a computer for my Wife who wanted to start gaming on PC. I have been stuck with using my old GTX 650 even though I have been playing the Newegg lottery for an entire month. Waiting on a desk so I havent done any outside cable management yet. AMD Ryzen 5 3600X (Yes I am using the stock cooler for now) 32 GB of DDR4 3600 Ram (Gskill) 27' 165 Hrz 1440p monitor with freesync/gsync And the Nvidia GTX 650 bottlenecking the whole thing. The RGB makes her happy though.

Posted April 9, 2021 This is my setup Few notes: I've been without a graphics card for 7 months now and I got the opportunity of becoming a verified actual gamer! I'm currently waiting on my GeForce RTX™ 3080 SEA HAWK X which will arrive in a few short days! Since I don't have a graphics card yet my two monitor Dragon Ball P background is currently on one monitor and you can't fully appreciate it lol. In the first pic the case is a Corsair Carbide SPEC-02 which I replaced as seen on the other pics to a 4000D Airflow and that's because the SPEC-02 could not fit both of my Cooler Master Hyper 612 V2 and the rad for the brand new GPU, the 612 is too large to allow top mounting the rad, and the front is blocked by a hard drive cage, so you can check out the new 4000D build in the pics (I didn't use any cable ties or anything, when the card arrives I've already connected the PCIe power cables and it'll just be a matter of moving the fans and placing the rad and GPU) I've ordered a PCIe riser, the case has an option to vertically mount the card and since it's liquid cooled (besides VRMs) I think it can be closer to the glass. Yes the table is worn lol, had it since elementary school lol On my table you can find a SEGA GENESIS USB splitter (just there for decoration haha), a Witcher 3 wolf emblem paper weight and a CPU pillow The main components of the build are: Intel i7 8700K on a Z370 MSI Gaming Pro Carbon motherboard 32GB of 3200MHz HyperX Fury RAM Waiting on my GeForce RTX™ 3080 SEA HAWK X from lttstore.com The screen is ASUS PG279Q as recommended on LTT a few years back peripherals are Corsair ST100 headset stand, MM800 mousepad, and the RGB Strafe MK.2, Razer Mamba TE (only use that for gaming since it has bad battery life) and a Logitech MX Master 2S. Posted April 9, 2021 Ok, i did actually register to this forum just to be roasted, so... Here's my actual setup! It can stream on twitch or radio speaking, edit audio and video, and play games too! And i'm not talking about those old games on my NAS, but i will not hide that i can do only the lowest settings for now (i sold my real gaming pc last year to get a new one, it had a GTX980, i regret i did it, but it had almost the same specs as my actual pc). That's why i use it to stream my ps4 (it's on the other side with TV, couch, and a real 5.1 surround system). My PC is inside that cabinet because of a Linus video doing the same, and i modded my pc and ups to have power buttons and leds outside (i still need to make a border with a 3D printer tho). Here the pc specs: HP premade i7-6700, 8GB, Quadro P1000 on a 180w power supply (it was my office pc). Monitors are : LG 32GK850G 31,5" 1440p, LG 29UM55 29" ultrawide, and a random HP 24". Lots of pheriperials: a Stream Deck XL, Novation Launchpad Mini MK3, Aukey MK-G12 keyboard, an old G402 mouse, a Contour ShuttleXpress, a Dj-Tech Dj Mouse, a custom midi controller ASL MKA-F5B20, Presonus Audiobox iTwo, Bose Computer MusicMonitor, a DBX 286s compressor and behringer minifex for my condenser microphone (t-bone SC400), Synology NAS DS420j, a cheap hp jet printer and a zebra LP2844 (to label my drawers and jars). Pedals are for the minifex and a "cough" mute for the mic. And in case you're wondering... yes, all 3 displays, the lights and microphone are all on a single monitor pole, on an ikea table. Oh, and i made that clock myself with arduino that tells me when to throw out the garbage, because f**k alexa.
