DisplayPort shenanigans

Hi all. I've got some weird issues with either my display, GPU or W10P installation.

 

Whenever I boot up my pc, there's a ~30% chance my main monitor (ASUS XB240H, connected with DP to GPU) won't detect any signal. 

My pc will start just fine, basically not recognizing that monitor. I can log in on my second monitor (connected with HDMI), and windows will show that no other monitor has been connected. 

I can usually resolve this by just restarting, but about once every 10 restarts, I'll have the same problem (restarting again usually fixes it). 

 

It's not a big deal, but I found it kind of weird. It's been happening for years. 

After my boot SSD died (sad_violin.mp3) a few months ago I had to reinstall windows on a new drive, yet the problem persists. 

Any clue to what's going on?

 

GPU: EVGA GTX970 FTW
Monitor: ASUS XB240H
OS: Windows 10 Pro

Don't have another one near, I'll ask around if anyone I know has a spare cable. 

Though I don't really see how a damaged cable would be affected by a system restart.

I don't either but its an idea to try. I had an issue once where my system would not shutdown. Searched and found someone saying a DisplayPort cable can actually cause that. 

Unplugged and plugged back the 2 DP cables on my monitors and I haven't had this happen since. DisplayPort is WEIRD.
