10600k Worth It?

Hi all,

My 3770k is showing its age and I'm looking at an upgrade. The 10600k is going for £200 now which looks tempting, am I going to see a noticeable performance increase in games? I'd be pairing it with a Z490 board and 16GB 3600MHz CL18, the rest of my build would be the same as below.

 

Games-wise I play CoD Warzone, Cyberpunk, RDR2 at 1440p 144Hz (not that I can reach that frame rate often)

Yeah 4cores to 6 cores would be noticable.

Ryzen 3600 also around that price.

This kit is better, also if you are gonna go with a Intel system a higher MHz kit such as the 4000MHz version of this might be doable, speaking of frames in these games I am not sure 10600K is enough for Warzone, I heard this game prefer 8-cores and is EXREMELY demanding.

I'd might get a cheeper motherboard and go up to a 5600x (b series is fine for ryzen). It would be a noticibly faster cpu.

Thanks, the 3600 is a little older than I'd like and I'm happy to spend a little more for the performance gain the 10600k gives.

True that RAM is slightly better but it's ugly. Is CL18 to CL16 really much of a difference though? I can't see any benchmarks that give noticeable performance improvement for going above 3600MHz in games. In terms of core count for Warzone 6c/12t is at the top of benchmarks I've seen, with anything more not giving any additional benefit.

I'm not too fussed about the motherboard so maybe a good shout, I wanted to have a concrete CPU choice before looking too hard. The 5600X is 60% more expensive than the 10600k, it's nowhere near worth the slight performance gain...

60%? The MSRP is 50% higher than the 10600k. But that combined with a cheeper motherboard (in the 120ish range) would off set that for the performance gain.

Another user complained about the CPU having issues in this game, tough not sure if it was ever resolved, tough yeah think of it like this:

 

3800MHz CL19 = 3200MHz CL16

Now that may be odd but think about it like this

 

3600MHz CL16 = 8.8ns

while

3200MHz CL16 = 10ns

3600MHz CL18 = 10ns

3800MHz CL19 = 10ns

I'd go for the 10600K + B560 board. That'll be significantly cheaper than B550 + 5600X, 10600K's have gone for $170 pretty recently, see if you can snag one for that price.
