Implementation of thunderbolt 3 (USB 4) in non supported devices

Yeah, so I was wondering since an nvme ssd uses PCIE -x4 slot (same as in thunderbolt), will it be possible to adapt an extra m.2 slot (nvme compatible) to thunderbolt?? I may we way wrong here, please do correct me in that case.

I am not sure if you can get the NVMe protocol working over Thunderbolt, but it is for sure possible to get an M.2 enclosure and have it work as removable storage over USB.

Here is one on Amazon.
