3080 restock issue potential solution

here is something I don't get. Bestbuy can stop scalping very easily and they just don't do it. Here is how Bestbuy can literary sell RTX 30 series or other new-gen consoles in person only. You can only purchase these merchants with your photo id. and limitations on the number of merchants you can buy (ex only one per customer per month). this will not only stop both the scalper and miner but also this is something easy to do.

That's not the only issue with restocking. It's that there simply aren't cards to be had.

Fun fact: miners can also buy in person, and they can bring in friends to buy cards for them.

Ah yes, that's totally not a major risk to your customers if there's a data breach.

thats ture tho, but it will help a lot on current sotck levl and restock rate. it will at least bring it a little bit better. and we will see less scalper on ebay. this is way better than NV's way  (just cut 3060 "mining ability" in half.) people can mine other currency with 3060 and there is no difference on stock level with 3060 and 3080

it depends on weather bestbuy want to trying it or not. they just only need to register names which on ids. even bestbuy system get breached, hacker wont get anything except for bunch of names

Scalpers and miners still have IDs though. They are people...

 

Also, there's a global pandemic still very much going on, so limiting things to in person purchase only doesn't seem like a smart move.

It won't, though. Doing that doesn't increase the number of cards available to purchase. I don't think you fully grasp why there's a shortage.

It also won't stop scalpers.

I've bought thousands of dollars in hardware and never shown my ID. Only times I've had to present ID were to buy my rifle, and since I've turned 21 to buy alcohol. Both in person too, not stored on any server anywhere. Only service I've heard of requiring an ID was Parler, and that didn't go very well.

i know there is a shortage around in world. but with current storage levl, a lot of cards are held by either miners or scalpers. i have seen people selling 20 3080 in best buy parking lot. thats only one scalper. and if you sum up all these scalper around the world, you will see how many card are hold by them

Then how is that any different from adding your username, email, shipping and billing address, and all the other stuff you put in for standard account you're buying things through?

Sounds like a lot of staff overhead for something that doesn't matter to BestBuy.  They sold a product, they don't care who bought it and what they do with it.  they don't have an "issue" with scalpers and miners.

 

They have a "no stock" issue that affects everyone.  The only way for that to be "fixed" is for Nvidia to start shipping more units.

You realize that miners are customers too though, right?

Scalpers wouldn't exist if people didn't see the cards worth the extra cost they're asking.

What's wrong with BestBuy's current method? Works well, I've gotten 2 cards (3080 FE and 3090 FE for brother who does CAD) without trouble. 3060 Ti and 3070 have been in my cart a lot but I never had the intention to buy them, just testing adding to cart.

To be fair not everyone has the extra time to watch for when Bestbuy restocks cards, or pay for stock bots.

But I think retailers could easily limit it to 1 card per customer, or sell cards in store only, because Microcenter does that.

thats not possible to for NV. like NV CFO said they will pick up the pace to manufacturing as early as april. and it takes time from factory to retailer. the only thing we can do now is saving current stock

Company like best buy can just make a progam that only allow certain number of cards under one perosons NAME only. The system contains NAMES ONLY. it wont be that hard. even i can program something like that with java

Just like a lot of people said Bestbuy dont care about us, the only thing they care about is money. as long as scalpers and minners paid, they wont act. i put my word here. this will happen to 3080ti and rest of this gen card. if we are lucky, pendemic end before september, we probably can catch some 4080. but i already gave up on this gen
