(CPU 2011 v3 Form Factor) Any flat but large CPU fans?

Radium_Angel

I'm going to be building a cheap n' cheerful Xeon build, using this mobo

JGINYUE-X99-motherboard-LGA-2011-3-set-k

It will be mounted vertically in an open frame case (frame has yet to be decided) but mounting a tall CPU cooler will cause stress (I feel) on the connections, so I was thinking about a low profile CPU cooler, but something large enough to cause airflow across the RAM slots and VRM heatsink.....

....if such a thing exists.

Any suggestions, if such a crazy cooler exists? RGB is optional.

NOTE: I no longer frequent this site. If you really need help, PM/DM me and my e.mail will alert me.

If I understand correctly (maybe not), maybe the Noctua NH-L9x65 would fit your needs?

It's entirely possible that I misinterpreted/misread your topic and/or question. This happens more often than I care to admit. Apologies in advance.

Wow that mobo is very pretty. Very clean, unlike most chinese motherboards.

Those xeons frankenboard getting better.

it will look very nice with Wraith prism, unfortunately you can't.

My main concern is the weight of that, when the mobo is mounted vertically

V0M5_1_201808281115545877.jpg

I'd be concerned that gravity would take over and the whole thing would bend

Look, for example at the pic in the lower right

s-l1600.jpg

Now it may not have been mounted properly, but that's concerning all the same.

Does that pull air in and down through the heat sink and out the sides, or up through the heatsink and out the top?

I have seen a number of wraith-like knockoffs however

I won't be gaming on this system, so absolute maximum cooling power may not be required.

I specifically chose that mobo because it's very clean, the reviews (such as they are online) indicate it's the better of the cheap x99 boards.

Time will tell...

I believe you can configure it to blow air down through the heatsink.

That is just like a normal pc. Sure a heavy heatsink will over time bend a little bit but that isn't a problem. If you are worried about the rame don't be those aluminium bars are deceptively strong.

Low profile coolers are generally downdraft so you won’t need something big to get the motherboard components.  Xenons don’t overclock.  I might even consider a higher quality model stock cooler. One of the copper slugged ones perhaps.

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

Also why not just a regular old hyper 212? Those are light and very capable.

I did not know they were light, they looked very heavy.

I don’t pay attention to intel stock cooler models.  They started cheapening them some years ago.  The older ones had copper inserts and tended to cool better. They’re easy to identify because if you look at the bottom there is a copper circle in the center.  Best I got.

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

It's only like 700 grams I mean this chassis is literally just a strong motherboard tray on a stand. So basically treat it like a case where you'd happily put a nhd15 in. If you are scared of those L bracket hooks bending just get some stronger ones (I doubt they will) it's standard sized aluminium bars used in all sorts of equipment.

The 2011-3 socket assembly is fucking chad, unless the motherboard is so incredibly shite that the PCB itself will snap and allow the socket and backplate to be torn clean out of the motherboard, you can just use a normal cooler.

Not a direct substitute but basically they means it's really REALLY strong. You would really have to try to break a 2011 boards cooler mount and socket.

As a native English speaker (and only English), I uh... can't explain my own language 😂. Basically this:

Really damn strong and beefy. And on 2011/2011-3 boards, it's explicitly designed to mount the cooler (thus the threaded holes already there), so unless the OEM significantly skimped on the PCB and it's got the strength of a graham cracker, it won't break when the motherboard is screwed down properly.
