Is the HyperX Cloud 2 worth it?

Meowster
Go to solution Solved by narrdarr,

sound is solid, light and comfortable, frame is weak, the mic is the worst thing ever.

I'm currently looking for a good headset and and I have come across the Cloud 2. I have seen multiple youtubers using it. Is it good?

I have only heard good things about it so it is probably save to recommend. However it is rather on the cheaper side so don't expect too much from it.

Maybe on the cheaper side for headphone in general.

In terms of gaming-oriented headset I'd describe them as upper-mid-range.

Are you possibly thinking of a different model?

I have them sat next to me on the desk right now, and can confirm that

  • the frame is built from solid metal and is by no means weak, especially not compared to the plastic constructions that some other headsets seem to have
  • the mic isn't good, but it's reasonable by headset standards and entirely adequate for causal voice calls, videoconferencing etc. (I wouldn't use it for voiceovers though)
  • the sound is excellent as you say; there's not tons of bass but I don't entirely mind that and it certainly doesn't sound tinny
  • comfortable - yes. light - well, it depends what you're used to - significantly heavier than earbuds or most small on-ear headphones

To OP: If you can afford it, then yes, buy them.

Thanks for reading all this by the way!

By the way, my desktop is a docked laptop. Get over it, No seriously, I have an exterrnal monitor, keyboard, mouse, headset, ethernet and cooling fans all connected. Using it feels no different to a desktop, it works for several hours if the power goes out, and disconnecting just a few cables gives me something I can take on the go. There's enough power for all games I play and it even copes with basic (and some not-so-basic) video editing. Give it a go - you might just love it.

They are comfortable. Good sound. Pretty good build. Although the big brother are the MH752's which has a much better mic and they are overall better.

nope I have the same model.. well I got them for my gf. I have them replaced twice do to mic issues. once the whole set. the second the inline dac was causing errors in windows.

the mic just isn't sensitive enough to pick up the voice. you can download the latest firmware to help with it, but it only allows you to adjust mic volume in windows. then im using peace a third party app to push it farther. finally people can hear when your speaking through the mic, but it still cuts out here n there. but it way way.

what I mean by weak is the mostly related to the headband area. it is easy to warp. you can bend it back but.... I have also notice that the clamping force has gotten weaker last time I put them on. she's only had then for 2 years or lease and doesn't use them often.

no I don't think this should be bought.

I've genuinely never had any of the issues which you describe, apart from the inline DAC, which you don't even have to use (just unplug the headset from it and plug directly into your computer)

that's good to hear. I've only talked to people that have had issue with them as i was trouble shooting.

if I recall the splitter for them was one peace and didn't fit the i/o or it was to short or something. I don't remember now. as you know the dac has it's own problems. the mic issue is probably related to it. If you were to search ”low mic volume cloud ii/2” you'll find alot of threads and a few videos regarding the mic

there are some good options out there

sennheiser pc37x/ game one.

arguably one of the mostly comfortable headset.

the mic quality  is killer

sound quality is solid

build quality even though is plastic it doesn't feel cheap and is durable.

but one of it pro is also its biggest con. that would be that they are open back headset. so you cant hear things going around you which is nice for some of us. but you loose alot of sound from it. if you play games that sound is  really important like EFT your going to have a hard time. playing pubg is fine but you'll get those I didn't hear that guy sometimes.

ARCTIS 5 2019 Edition

I haven't tried these.  so I cant be as detailed. but, they usually rank low with yt reviewer but very positive with buyers. which sound right as they should trade blows with cloud 2.
