Which one and why?

Depends if you really need the 2 cores and 8 threads and need overclocking support. That really about it. What res are you editing at? If you are at 1080p or lower then probably the i7 would be fine and a i9 10900F if you are editing at 4k or higher.

For an extra $36 I would take the 10900F

TBH for this neither. Ryzen 5000 has superior single core perf, superior gaming perf, and in general the motherboards are cheeper. (And you can find r5 5600xs at MSRP)

 

If you have a motherbord, get the 10900f, it has higher clocks. (Unless it's a z series motherboard, which in that case get the 10700k so you can oc it)

I'm editing and gaming at 1080p (144hz) I'm not planning to upgrade my monitor soon or in a while unless it suddenly dies and in case it does I would go high refresh rate at 1440p or 1080p but not 4K

 

Just for the record I don't do any video editing.

I was considering going Ryzen, I had my eyes on the 5800X (I'm aiming to 8 cores minimum.)

 

But that chip costs $450 and performance is almost the same as the 10700K at $328

totally agree. the 5000 series excell in single core performance.

the 5800x performance vs 10700k performance is definetely noticeable. But for lots of ppl, it isnt worth an extra $100

The 10900f probably. Not only does it have higher clock speed, you can flex and say u have an i9.

I believe single core performance is way better for Photoshop / AdobeXD which is what I use, but I was aiming to 8 cores because consoles are using that, I'm wondering if I should go with 6 cores instead for better single core performance.

6 cores will be just fine for what u want to do. what 4 core cpu do u have?

 

Edit: oh, i saw ur signiture. That isnt the best cpu for ur gpu. It could be bottlenecking it.

It's noticible 8 faster cores vs 8 slower cores (the 5600x is about a 10900k in perf, the 5800x is much faster than a 10900k) and getting a motherboard that's good is cheeper on amd.

the 5600x will be great for ur gpu and photoshop/adobe. It wont bottlenck ur gpu. Ur 100% cpu usage should be fixed with it.

Not necessarily. A good kit of 3200 cl16 or 3600cl16. 

Pair that with something like a b550-f gaming motherboard, turn on xmp, your good to go.

10900F will clock around 4.5-4.6ghz most of the time, and the 10700k will clock as high as you can get it to because it's overclockable.

 

Right now the best value for gaming is the 10600K which is often under $200 or just around, or 5600x if you got the money for it.

lowest ive seen the 10600kf is 199 and 10700kf is 289

I just realized that the RAM I currently have is DDR4 3000mhz but its "old" you think it will work with a Ryzen 5600x?

It would work, but 3000 is really slow for a 5600x. I would sell it and buy some new ram. (Noticible perf increase)

not the fastest possible ram. its uneccessaryily expensive for wat u actually get. But 3600 mhz is the sweet spot for value and good performance. 32gb would be good probably. PUBG wouldnt rly benefit from it, but Photoshop and Adobe might.

Actually want 3733MHz for Zen3 if memory serves right and if wanting to push it to the limit a kit that can OC to 3800MHz so the FCLK is at 1900. ^w^

I'm having a hard time picking the ram, I was looking for a 4x8gb kit 3600 cl16

 

none of the options I found at Amazon is on the list of the supported ram here: https://rog.asus.com/motherboards/rog-strix/rog-strix-b550-f-gaming-wi-fi-model/helpdesk_knowledge
