Windows is a f*cking 3yo sometimes-- I can't install..... anything

Ok, ive oposted about this before, but it's getting worse.

 

Im having problems with downloads on windows. The automatic installer for the net framework, a windows installer, and basically anything from the MS store. I always error out with the code 0x80072f8f. 

Ive tried everything under the sun to fix that error code, and its persistent across like 3 or 4 windows 10 instalations.

What the hell should I do?
 

For reference:

Im using a tp link deco system attached to my main modem/router thing. 

im on a activated version of windows 10 pro 20h2, but it was present on 201h1 i believe.

i know that xb live services (what the error seems to be about?) haven't been down for like 2 months straight.

i wish gamepass worked on linux

thje specs are the same as in sig, but here:

easy anti cheat should be called easy anti linux.

If the error is solved, then it's a Win10 issue.

If not, it's a hardware error.

Either way, we'll know.

Just to ask,  do things like gamepass and easyvanti cheat games work on this?

Can't speak for gamepass, but easy anti check (at least the Steam version) seem to install without issue.

Not for 30 days.

I'm not asking you to use it full time, all I want to know is if it solves the error issue. WE can nail down the finer details later.

For the record, I've been using Win9 since MS EOL'd Win7, and aside from applications that hard code Win10-only, it's been working great.

If so, it'll likely not work because MS are dicks about this sort of thing.

Yep, it's only for win10, I just checked.

Should I install win9 on the same drive? Or do you thing a diffrent one is fine?

If we are troubleshooting, and you have good backups of your data, use the one that WIn10 is already on, nuke it, install win9, updates (you get security updates only) and then try to install the stuff that gave you the error messages, and let's see what you get...

I don't have backups, but nothing important is there. Just my fn install. But I have gigabit so that shouldn't take long to reinstall.

Not sure if you tried this, but one thing that kept on coming up when searching your error is to check the time settings. Be sure the time and timezone are correct, sync the time to be sure it is correct. If you are switching between Linux and Windows, you might have an issue where one thinks the system time is in UTC and the other thinks it is in the local timezone, and each will switch it, so check if the time is accurate and sync the time if you need to.

nope. im on the newest version (20h2) and no updates are pending.

actually they had a major outage just a few days ago. as far as "easy anti cheat" not sure if you need that for MCC, or a different game, but i also couldn't get it to work and gave up lol.

yeah, but its been like that since the beginning of january. not just a few days.

Try running 

sfc /scannow

to check for corrupted files. 

Only other thing seems to be clearing the Microsoft Store cache or reinstalling the Store. Instructions here

i cant find a usb right now, so ill bench any reinstalls until i can find it.

already tried all of that. non helped.

 

my best guess is its something to do with the double nat thing.

If your double nat was broken, then you couldn't download or browse the internet at all.

i dotn think its broken, but i know with experimentation with plex that dowble nats can break things.
