Memory clock for mining ethereum. What clocks are safe? What is some good tuning I can do to get the max out of my RTX 2060?

So I recently decided that due to the state of Ethereum I'd try mining it for fun and maybe even make a little cash. I found that driving down the core clock and firing up the memory clock gave me some nice has rates. How high should I clock my memory? Will it get to hot? Will it hurt my system or GPU? Is there any other things I can do to maximize performance from my card without harming it?

As long as the temps don't go over certain value.

And as long as the overclock is "stable" than you can increase the memory clock alot.

Ofc you can't overclock a thing infinetly.

Also if you are worried about underclocking core clock, that's like driving a car at slower speed...

(but dont forget that increasing memory clock is like driving faster with the car obviously.)

Man I don't know if it's even worth trying with a just a single RTX 2060. 

 

@Moonzy here, GPU glutton, has 3x 3060Tis, 7x 3070, and one 3090, and with all of them running full blast all day he makes $105 a day. You're looking at peanuts, even if electricity is free for you.

True, I just wanted to test it out. If I did it for a few months at my current hashrate minus my electricity cost I can get a couple hundred bucks if the price stays high enough. But mostly its just a personal interest thing.

as high as long as it's stable, ETH scales well with memory clocks

from my 3090 that has Tjunction on VRAM, yes, it runs pretty hot, and it gets hotter as you clock it up (also relates to power limit and what not)

but im not sure if it applies to all VRAM as 3090 is GDDR6X

no promises, but if you're doing it right and take precautions such as temps (and psu intake as well)

the likelihood of damaging your components is nil

from my 3090 that has Tjunction on VRAM, yes, it runs pretty hot, and it gets hotter as you clock it up (also relates to power limit and what not)

Ah. Yeah I don't have any probes monitoring the VRAM so I guess I should be cautious. Do you know if its just the GDDR6X that gets super hot? Or is it just VRAM overclocking across the board that gets the memory super hot.

On my 1080 I can get around +580Mhz on the memory, my 2070 can get +830Mhz, and my 5700XT I just set the limit to something insane and let it clock itself when I downclock the core. That being said some cards don't have VRM or VRAM temp sensors and my 5700XT VRMs hit 105C easily so adjust your cooling accordingly

this is also the question that i'm in the middle of answering myself

but it's impossible to know unless you really dig deep

 

but one thing i can say is that HUB reviewed my 3090, the VRAM case temp is 73c while the Tjunction temps are more like ~90-95c for games

so there's about a ~20c discrepancy there, so you might be able to extrapolate from there

 

while mining, if i set it to run as fast as it can (+1200MHz), it'll hit 110c and throttle its speed

so im running it at +1000, which brought it down to 106-107c

 

as for non G6x VRAM, i really don't know, as only G6x has Tjunction sensors built in

Well at $5 a day, it can pay your electric bills for a month. Not bad i think.
