Installed new cpu now black screen

SeventyPointThree
Go to solution Solved by SeventyPointThree,

So I Can't revive it, I removed the CMOS battery.  Shorted the pins it told me to reset the bios.  tried single channel memory, my 1060 doesn't work.  I just can't get the display on.  I guess my only recourse is to get a new motherboard which super blows.

I just don't get why my 2700x wouldn't continue to work.

"Sigh". I received my 5800x today and some more corsair fans.  I had not updated the bios yet.  Put the new cpu in and then got a black screen when I fired it up.  Put in the old cpu still black screen.  Now I see the monitor light up and I even thought I heard a windows notification.

I mean it was just working this morning.  I removed the cmos battery and I'm going to try to clear bios settings when I get home.

I moved some ram around and did single channel.

Build:

Asus Prime X470 pro

Ryzen 2700x/5800x

32gb Corsair ram at 3200 mhz

Rtx 3080

Evga 1000w g3

Corsair water cooler for cpu

Let us know how it goes with the CMOS battery.

Not much we can do on our end, except link the 5800x BIOS...

Why you didn't update the BIOS prior to putting the 5800x in I have no idea.

Edit:  Hmm, link defaults to the main page, so scroll down to the 5800x BIOS link.

Your call, but I am sure the motherboard is fine.  Clearing should work.  New CPU won't have killed it.
