Upgrade form 3100 to 3700X?

I've been waiting for 5800X's or 5900X's to come into stock since their release, but that doesn't seem to be happening anytime soon. My current computer is running a 3100 in it, and in general it's fine.

This computer is mostly used for Photoshop, Capture One, Lightroom, light video editing, hardly ever sees games.

My question is when 5800X's come available, they'll be $450. I found a 3700X brand new, local, for $330. Is the 5800X $120 faster for productivity? Should I wait? I use this computer every day for the better part of 4-18hrs/day. Specs are in my sig

AMD Ryzen 3 3100 // ASUS X-570-P Prime // 32GB G.Skill Ripjaws V 3200 CL16 // ASUS GeForce GTX 1660 Super //  WD Black SN750 2TB // Samsung 860 EVO 1TB SATA 6Gb // Corsair CX500

To be honest I think you're perfectly fine with a 3700X. I got one too and was looking at the 5800X but I don't think I would notice any difference. I would either go for the 3700X in your case, or even the 3900X (in my local stores 3900x is slightly cheaper than 5800X and might benefit your workload).

If you make money off the productivity work, the 5000 series is absolutely worth the extra cost. But then so is buying the 3700x as an interim part.

If it's just a hobby, then the 3700x isn't terrible. Just know that at $330 (if USA) is more expensive than it was about 6 months ago.

Definitely not a hobby, this is my livelyhood.

I'll pick up that 3700X

You can always still hunt for the 5800/5900x and when you finally get one at MSRP, sell the 3700x.

Ryzen 3700X is fine and provides good value for its price. Nobody knows really knows how long this shortage lasts. If you can wait till then, you can go for 5800X as well.
