Failed SSD install, how fried is the notebook?

Josysclei

So, I told a tech newbie friend it was easy to install a SSD on her notebook. Sent a couple YouTube tutorials and told her to ask me for help when she began doing it. When she reached me, it was to say something had already shorted...She did not remove the battery and touched a metal bracket on the WiFi card pins, creating a small arc. The computer did not turn on anymore. The local repair shops told her the motherboard is fried and need replacement, but they do not do board repair (replacing capacitors, probing pins, etc) so I don't trust their opinion. I know there is a possibility something major like a PCIe lane might be fried, but how likely it is only a capacitor, resistor or minor IC got fried, and it´s an easy repair on the hands of an experienced technician?

It's not possible to say how likely it is.

Hand, n. A singular instrument worn at the end of the human arm and commonly thrust into somebody’s pocket.
