USB Type C DP Alt mode is driving me nuts

Hardware:

 

Asus G531GU laptop (I7 9750h, GTX 1660ti, 24GB RAM). In theory, the USB Type C should be 3.1 Gen 1 or Gen 2 with DisplayPort support (has the D logo next to it).

Two different HDMI cables tested.

Two different monitors tested (both have VGA and HDMI, but no DisplayPort, hence the adapter).

 

Issue:

No luck getting video signal through the Type C port.

 

Tried so far:

Updated BIOS to latest version, updated everything related to GPU (both Intel and Nvidia)

 

Am I wrong in assuming that because the port supports DisplayPort it should also work flawlessly with HDMI? If so, how could I get an HDMI signal from it? Maybe another kind of adapter?
