Dark Hero worth it?

Hey. The asus x570 crosshair hero wifi is on sale at my local store but a alos see the "dark" model is available. What are the main differences other then there not being a chipset fan on the dark.

How bad are these MB fans and is the dark worth it? The hero is about 465 usd and the dark hero is 700.

Thanks in advance!

Not worth it. Liquid nitrogen oc for records? Maybe. Otherwise stick to 200-250d boards.

Dynamic Overclock Switcher is only on Dark Hero. Allows the CPU to switch between PBO and a manual overclock for the best single thread and multi thread performance. Tempting feature but not worth the price difference imo.

Fans aren't that loud if you turn them down which isn't hard to do.

Your probably better looking at the B550 options since some of those boards can be better than their X570 equivalent.

MB fans are a non issue.

2 main features on the Dark is the Dynamic OC Switcher, and the beefy built in sound card.

Honestly, if I was buying I'd get the STRIX - E, the price premium of the VIII Hero / Dark is pretty high, and you don't get much value.

This are sadly very expensive here in norway. A x570-f is 385 usd. So a cheap board is stil not cheap

The fan on my Crosshair VIII Impact is unnoticeable. Especially when it's turned down via the BIOS or AI Suite.

My D5 is louder anyway. Although that's probably down to its mount.

The X570-E is 430 usd over here in norway so only a 35 usd difference. Its the import tax. So even a cheap board isn't cheap

Good.

Do these tend to wear out or will it pritty much outlast the reasonable lifespan of the system?

Yes, the regular hero is 35 usd more then the x570-e. From what all you you are saying, im probably going with the hero. The oc feature of the dark hero is tempting. But i have tu agree that its probably not worth the 235 usd difference between the regular and the dark.

Thanks for saving me 200 dollars everyone!

Fans or pump? Either part should outlast your system. Even if they don't you'll make it to the 5 year mark easily enough. And you can transfer them to another system if you wish. Some have went on for longer though. My D5 is approaching 6 years old this year and is still going strong.

Sry, could have been more clear. Wondering about the MB fan. Guessing changing it is out of the question.

And how much does MSI X570 Tomahawk or Unify cost there? Or Gigabyte X570 Aorus Pro? There is literally no point spending more if care about the price at all.

Looks easy to change. Removing the chipset heatsinks wouldn't be too hard if it did fail. I'm fairly sure that the fan can be disabled so it doesn't spin until lit hits a temperature threshold or something like that.

Sounds good. Maybe ill find a block for it and just include it in the loop. Ether way. From what you are saying the fan won't be a problem.

mathematically it really depends on the cpu ur pairing it with, i'd say it's worth it for a 5900x or 5950x.

Personally the dark hero's the only board i'll be getting for any zen 3 builds, mainly for the boost switch and the lack of chipset fan.

  • 1 month later...

I had a Rog x570-f Gaming with Ryzen 3900X  a couple of hours ago. After an unfortunate series of events, I had to buy a new motherboard guess what, it is Dark Hero. There is no other option for Asus premium mobs other than Rog Impact at the local computer markets. All other's stocks are already depleted. Go away Covid-19 😪

For me, I think it is worth it despite of $600 price.

Anyway, It seems it's focus is Zen3 CPUs. I assume that 3900X won't use Dynamic OC Switch as far as I understand. Getting additional temp sensors for my custom water cooling setup would be nice. New VRM design would be better option over x570-f 's poor(!) VRM solution, I hope. BT and Wireless options with a lot of USB ports are nice to have. There are some useful buttons all over the mobo for OverClockers which may be handy.

Maybe I will try some LN2 cooling who knows 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Stay safe.
