Extreme CPU temperatures in Cinebench multi-core test

TheThe

My CPU core temps on idle are normal I think, ranging from 32C to 39C. But... I ran the Cinebench multi-core test and the temps rose to 100C in like 5 seconds. The second I turn it off the CPU temps go down to idle temps. On the single-core test, I get something like 60C to 70C.

I double-checked that the cooler is mounted properly, that the plastic film is removed and that the thermal paste is spread well. I use XMP profile and disabled MCE.

Parts:

  • i9-10850K
  • MSI Z490 MAG Tomahawk
  • Arctic Liquid Freezer II 280
  • Cooler Master TD500 Mesh

I don't have a GPU yet, so I'm using the integrated Intel graphics now if that matters.

What could be the issue?

Can you hear the pump? Do you have fan spin?

I could use some help with this!

please, pm me if you would like to contribute to my gpu bios database (includes overclocking bios, stock bios, and upgrades to gpus via modding)

The AIO is brand new. I'm not sure what to check, but I did not change much. Just tried to enable XMP (which I later disabled) and disable MCE.

What should I look for?

Is the rad higher than the pump for at least some part?

Not really, but the case fans are not completely silent even on low rpm. I do see that the VRM fan on the pump spins.

Can you show some system specs while test is running? Just to make sure. I think your cooler is fine, it should show bad temps in other stressing as well. But this might be issue on voltages.

Can you show us what the vcore is too. It could just be a bad mount or you forgetting to take the plastic strip off the cpu block

You can see the vcore at the top under voltages in the first image. Or do you mean something else?

And I did remove the plastic.

I re-mounted the block today just to make sure (which did not help). But I took the chance to take these pictures:

And you are using the correct standoffs? That looks like horrible contact.

Wow, you were right!

I mean, I was using the correct standoffs (the other ones don't fit), but I tried to tighten the thumb nuts a bit more and now the temps max out at 85C.
