(UK) Hello, it is my sister's birthday in 5 days and we were looking to get her a laptop at no more than £500

She would mainly use it for school, and games like minecraft, etc.

Just want her to have a good experience with the frames etc.

Any help would be appreciated

Thank you

Any preferred website or store you would like to buy the laptop from?

I mostly speak from my own past experience from similar problems. My solution may not work for you, but I'll always try my best to help as much as I can. If you want me to see your reply, make sure to quote my comment or mention me @WaggishOhio383, and I'll get back to you as soon as possible.

Not really, as long as they are reliable and relatively well known

I'm not very familiar with UK tech sites, but ao.com seems to be a popular choice. Only issue is their best two laptop options are sold out. This is the next best option that's in stock right now: https://ao.com/product/2q1h9eaabu-hp-laptop-white-80142-251.aspx

Issue with this laptop is I don't love the build quality, and the 256 GB SSD could be better. If it happens to come back in stock, this option would be much better: https://ao.com/product/nxhvtek00c-acer-laptop-black-77009-251.aspx

If you can recommend any other tech sites that you know of, I could check and see if they have good options, but as I said I'm not familiar with any myself. Usually I'd just use Amazon when recommending a product to someone from another country, but Amazon has terrible laptop selection.

It's a bit tough.

At that price you'll have a lot of laptop models that will not be upgradeable ... for example will come with ram soldered, and  no extra ram slots to go from 8 GB to 16 GB or from 16 GB to 32 GB. Also, you won't get the standard RJ45 (ethernet) port, only wireless connections.

If you can stretch it a bit, here an ok model

551 GBP, in stock : https://www.amazon.co.uk/HP-15s-fq1003na-15-6-Inch-Laptop/dp/B08CDY1KJZ/

Has one of the latest Intel processors, fast 512 GB storage, decent screen and camera, but 8 GB and wireless only.  Fine for browsing and minecraft and other such games and programming.  Note the shipping though, fastest they estimate is 26th of January.

If you can somehow order them (they seem to be temporarily out of stock) these Asus VivoBook laptops seem to have decent specifications for the money :

549 - 449 GBP

https://www.amazon.co.uk/ASUS-VivoBook-X512DA-Laptop-Windows/dp/B0845XZ5FQ/

No idea. They probably just come and help you set up the laptop. You probably don't need it.

This option on Curry's is also good if you can go pick it up. It doesn't have shipping available: https://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/computing/laptops/laptops/hp-15s-eq1510sa-15-6-laptop-amd-ryzen-5-256-gb-ssd-silver-10207935-pdt.html

I also found this option on Very which has similar specs. I just wish it said what specific Ryzen 5 CPU it has: https://www.very.co.uk/lenovo-ideapad-3-laptop-14-inch-full-hdnbspamd-ryzen-5nbsp8gb-ram-256gb-ssd-optional-microsoft-365-family-1-year-grey/1600545664.prd
