I'm working as hard as I can to become a programmer and learn as much as possible.  Except I run Ubuntu 12.04LTS and I'm finding the programming not noob-friendly and I want something noob friendly.  I've had allot of problems with Windows but is it worth switching back to get more noob-friendly programming.  I've ran multiple virtual machines in Linux to try and do programming but its far from the same as doing it when your only using Windows.  So I want to see what you think. Thanks in advance :)

i would say that you should get a dual boot, but dont get win 7. Win 8 is the same price, performs better, Looks better and is a much smoother system. Any Win 8 user would back me up on this. I have 3 systems all running win 8 and i have never even encountered a "Glitch" that people say win 8 has.

Well then you missed lesson number 1 of Linux. It's worth it and you'll learn a ton if you spend a day to back everything up and nuke the drive then get a dual-boot system working. Programming as a whole isn't meant to be noob friendly and if you go into it expecting it to be you'll only frustrate yourself.

I think he already has a license if he had it installed at one point.

Also most of the issues I have are with backwards compatibility, if Microsoft is too uptight to realize that some software has been working just fine since XP without any issues and NOW they wanna make big changes to NT, that's their problem. Win 7 is perfectly usable and rock solid.

I agree win 7 Is probably a little more "solid" then win 8. But win 7 is fugly xD. Just compair the task mamager windows. Win 7 has the same one that they have used since win 98...

Visual Studio is your friend.

Nothing comes close to it. It's so good that companies have 0 problem cashing out thousands of dollar per computer to get it.

If your school is registered to MSDNAA or DreamSpark Premium, you have Windows 7 and 8, as well as Visual Studio 2013 available for free.

I just wish Windows 8 had the same "Aero" properties for the Windows like what 7 had.

I just wish Windows 8 had the same "Aero" properties for the Windows like what 7 had.

It did (sorry for the not so great picture, they are harder to find, as people remove them):

win8-beta.jpg

(notice the Start button as well)

But people were complaining non stop, same for the Start button. So Microsoft removed both... only to have people complain about that, and have Microsoft put BACK the Start button.

I like how people say how Microsoft doesn't listen to user feedback, when that is what they did. Windows 7 they didn't.

It shows you, why you should not listen to user suggestions. Most don't know what they are talking about.

I don't remember anyone complaining about the start button in the win 7 beta, people just said it looked like vista. And saying that companies SHOULDN'T listen to customers is kind of stupid. It's basically what the ISP's are doing right now. And the reason people claimed they don't listen is because 8 was in beta for nearly a year and in that time there were digital riots over it. But if you go back and watch most reviews of 8.1 most people agreed it's slightly less terrible, but not quite there yet.

Ugly yes, but it was just as functional. And TBH how many normal people who care about that open it for anything but force killing an app. Which they made a smart move adding the simpler version that opens by default specifically for that reason.

Win8 Beta. People said it had no purpose, as on a Metro app (as it was called at the time), they were full screen and the Start button was not. So people said. Make it a hot corner all the time.

Poor choice of words, they should listen to their customers, but you have to stay focused. The same way game designers don't listen to fan fictions or features as it usually very bad (sucky story idea, or debalances the game, or just not true to the game).

Meh, if you have to.  Dual boot could be an option.

As I get older I get angrier more cynical, meaner. I feel some warning posts coming. I feel a ban coming. I was warned.

Eh, kinda sortta, take Halo 4 for example, they messed that up without the communities help. And you can make a game that listens to users and isn't crap, it's the product manager's fault for not implementing it right. And isn't it bad practice to blame the customer? Companies who do that tend to not be very popular.
