but i am getting free electricty from my student dorms. So i dont have an electric bill to pay sort of.

Yeah but they have an electric bill to pay.

Kind of scummy if you want to mine with someone else’s energy without them knowing. It’s essentially theft. You get paid and they get a bill for the same amount.

you should pay for the electricity you use (at least if you use it to profit)

3070 will make decent money right now mining ethereum. like $3-4 a day. isn't much but that's like a free steam game every month (or could be worth more if ETH keeps going up and you hold onto the coins you mine)

Since I stay on my pc all day i was wondering if I should mine whilst i have video lessons online and doing some coursework. I have a 3070. WIll I be able to do daily task whilst mining? and will my gpu lifespan shorten or no?

Unless you really thrash your card, then probably not. Use MSI afterburner(or similar software) and lower the power limit a bit just to keep it cooler. I try to keep mine from going over 65c but I have mined with cards at over 80c for long periods.

Have some fun, get yourself a wallet and have a play around. That's what I did.
The last couple of years, I used btc to pay for my PIA VPN subscription, which I think is pretty cool.

Also look into F@H and BOINC, really great causes to get behind and the forum does have competitions every year.

screw the college its what they get for having such outrageous tuition fees.

On base housing we have free power but my F@H rigs and everything make my mock bill to be an average of $800 a month, but i dont have to pay it the contractor that own base housing has to pay it and they are complete pieces of trash and suck at life, i even got called into the housing managers office and asked why i use so much power and i told him and he got annoyed and asked me to unplug some of them but i said no because they make me pay $1300 for a POS house that rent should only be like $500 so screw them. But i digress.

To the original question, naw you'll be fine as long as you don't let the cards get too hot. my 570's run about 75c 24/7 for the last year and they are still going strong with no signs of slowing down

i think for the 30 series cards, the 3060ti and 3080 are the best ones for mining. the 3070 is a miniscule jump from the 3060ti, but the 3080 is much better
