My PC has an i3-9100 and when I open a single chrome tab, the CPU usage is at 100% across all cores, but sometimes it goes down again.

Nico P

PLEASE HELP.

Whenever I open a program the CPU usage of that program is incredibly high, and it runs unbelievably slowly.

What should I do?

sounds like you have some kind of Crypto Currency extension installed, either knowingly or not.

What are your temps while that happens?

The temperatures are at 45 degrees Celsius, or 113 degrees Fahrenheit, and there is no temperature throttling showing in Aida64

No idea then - I thought it might be a temps thing - that when it launches Chrome it gets too hot and thermal throttles or something, but that's not it.

What are your full specs?

Then it's not lack-of-dual-channel stuff, which wouldn't really do this anyway.

Does it go back to being fast after opening the program?

Try this first:

Disable Add-Ons

Right-click the title bar or press "Shift-Esc" to open Task Manager in Google Chrome. Click "CPU" to see which task is consuming the most resources.

Write down the name of the task if it's a plug-in or extension. Select the process and then click "End Process" to close the task.

Open "Settings" from the Chrome menu and then click "Extensions," or type "chrome://plugins" (without quotation marks) into the address bar and then press "Enter," depending on which type of add-on is exhibiting high CPU usage.

Locate the appropriate extension or plug-in in the list. Uncheck "Enabled" or click "Disable" to prevent the add-on from running.

Reset Google Chrome

Click the Chrome Menu on the toolbar and then click "Settings."

Select "Show Advanced Settings" from the bottom of the page and then click "Reset Browser Settings."

Click "Reset" to revert your browser configuration to default.

It goes down very slightly to 95%, but nothing else happens afterwards.

Windows Defender is far far from perfect... I highly doubt you downloaded, installed, and ran a Malwarebytes scan in 2 minutes from when I posted to when you replied...

Check your power settings in windows and see if you have power saving mode enabled with a recent update on windows it can sometimes kick this in and cause issues
