How do I disable Precision Boost Overdrive?

Go to solution Solved by glenalz81,

You could set a negative offset voltage on the CPU, this will help temps also.

-0.050v is the most i would set, anymore and you're likely to lose performance.

Hi, everyone. I recently just upgraded my computer to a Ryzen 9 3900X with a MSI MPG B550 Gaming Carbon WIFI. How do I disable it to keep my CPU cool?

My Specs:

  • CPU - Ryzen 9 3900X
  • GPU - NIVIDA RTX 2070 Super
  • RAM - G.Skill Trident Z RGB 32 GB (4 x 8 GB) DDR4-3200 CL16
  • PSU - Corsair RMx (2018) 750 W 80+ Gold
  • CPU Cooler - be quiet! Dark Rock 4 Pro

Why would you want to lower your performance? Your cooler should have an easy job keeping that CPU cool at stock.

If someone did not use reason to reach their conclusion in the first place, you cannot use reason to convince them otherwise.

You can disable it in your BIOS, usually under advanced CPU features.

Well, I thought I might ask about it since I heard that PBO gives too much voltage, thus decreasing the longevity (unless there's some info I'm missing to understand it.) I know my cooler can cool the CPU well, but I want to be sure just in case since I'm new to using a ZEN2 CPU.

Thank you, I'll try it later.

Oh, forgot to ask this. Is there more I should do or that's it?

Okay, I'll try that. I'm not used to overclocking my components, I've always kept them in stock. So, thank you again. :)
