Surely that depends on how fast the person types on them?

Different switches aren't going to make you type faster - that is, unless you are replacing ones which are broken, or which you find uncomfortable to use.

Thanks for reading all this by the way!

By the way, my desktop is a docked laptop. Get over it, No seriously, I have an exterrnal monitor, keyboard, mouse, headset, ethernet and cooling fans all connected. Using it feels no different to a desktop, it works for several hours if the power goes out, and disconnecting just a few cables gives me something I can take on the go. There's enough power for all games I play and it even copes with basic (and some not-so-basic) video editing. Give it a go - you might just love it.

Typing speed is different from the speed of the switches.

No such thing. An engineering god such as yourself should know that all switches will perform the same and the only possible causes of latency are completely unrelated to the switches themselves.

Technically the "fastest switches" would be short throw laptop-style ones, or those like LTT made I believe a shortcircuit video about which have the usual long throw but click at the very beginning of their travel - which while "faster" can feel off-putting and weird/cause unintended presses.

Mechanical keyboards are a very user-preference thing and imo you have to try them out to get a proper feel of whether you'd like them or not. Personally I use cherry MX blue and voice chats just have to deal with my loudness 😎.

What are you looking to use the keyboard/switches for? Gaming? Typing? Work in a noise-sensitive environment? A 'fast' keyboard can simply mean that you can type faster with it, as I sometimes feel that I can with my Cherry Blues; or that it literally has a lower response time from actuating a key to the computer recieving a signal, like an Optical switch.

Big gaming much youtube video making

If by fastest you mean the shortest actuation point then it's probably the omnipoint switches in the steelseries apex pro.

https://steelseries.com/blog/adjustable-mechanical-switches-104

If not those then about any switches that have speed in their name like cherry speed silver, kailh speed etc.

IMO there's not point in getting a speed switch if it's intended to be better in games ... a good mouse will make much more of a difference than any keyboard could do.

Yeah like mentioned really any switch with speed in it's name will have low actuation and total travel. There are also optical ones that have even lower actuation point.
