Hey so I've got a 2020 HP Omen 15 with an i5-10300H, I bought it after thermal issues on my previous one and I've been monitoring temps real hard because of that. On idle, it's around 32-35c, seems fine to me. But while using Chromium Edge it runs at 46c on average with momentary spikes up to around 60. Is this normal? I also occasionally have Qbittorrent running in the background.

as long as it's below 80 it's very safe, but laptops tend to design so that under load the cpu would go to above 80, so i guess it's normal for laptops to run warmer

-sigh- feeling like I'm being too negative lately

Temps are fine. Torrenting can get you in trouble, and I don't mean trouble with law. Malware and rootkits are everywhere. Rather than browsing shady torrent websites, you should try out KODI.

If you want t1495661518_powersettingslaptop.png.97170c32ac46ffe20c57f401ee7cc37e.pngo limit the temperature of your CPU you can do so in advanced power settings. Maybe you can control the fan to kick in at lower temperature.

Intel Specifies the Max Temperature of this Chip at 100°C.

So, as long the temperature is 2-digits, you're 100% perfectly Fine. 40°C, 60°C or even 80°C, absolutely zero issues.

HP hopefully choses to let the CPU get 10-20°C hotter during webbrowsing, but instead having the Fan off, or as low as possible.

Noone wants to hear a Fan, when it's not really needed.

45 c while gaming? You either live in antarctica or you have a hell of cooling in your laptop .  Try to set prochot in throttle stop to set a max temp limit if it gets uncomfortably warm

What I meant by that is that it goes up to a max of 45c while browsing and only goes beyond that (up to like 70) while playing intensive games (though I don't play too many AAA's)

The keyboard deck is metal, so it never gets uncomfortable. I was just concerned about longevity.

Those temps are not even hot. Any temp under 80C is not a problem. Hitting 80C during heavy usage on occasion is not in itself a problem. If you're not playing a game or doing anything intensive, it may indicate a hardware issue with the system (airflow blockage, dead fan, etc), or a software problem (stuck process, DDoS attack if it's a server). Over 80C literally all the time is generally not good and could cause the board to fail sooner rather than later.
