7 year old hd 558s, worth upgrading? Recommendations?

Go to solution Solved by DJ46,

Personally I wouldn't bother, unless you feel like you're missing out on something or want to move to something that blocks more outside noise.

(Then again, I am using my HD555s with just onboard sound.)

There might be something better but I definitely don't know about anything more comfortable than a broken in pair of HD55x headphones. Just something to consider, because I spent a long time looking for something with this much space in the earcup.

I kinda realized that I've been using the same pair of hd 558s for the last 7 years every day and maybe I could do an upgrade. It seems like the improvements I read about online after the 558s get really wishy washy though.

I'm thinking in the 200-300 dollar range, and I already have an amp.

This would be used for a fair amount of gaming too so a big soundstage would definitely be important.

Just wondering if yall have any suggestions

What is it about the 558 that you want improvemed on? Do you like the sound signature of the 558? Do you want more comfortable headphones? Deeper cleaner bass? Mid range? Highs? Detachable cable? Ect ect

PC Audio Setup = Beyerdynamic DT 770 pro 80 ohm and Sennheiser pc37x (also for xbox) hooked up to Schiit Fulla 3

Might be worth changing the earpads if it's that old but as far as the headphones themselves go, audio isn't like PC hardware where newer is always better, unless you feel like you're missing out on something I'd stick with it
