PC shutting off during games

Hi,

I’ve been having an issue lately with my pc. I think it has to do with intensive games. So, my computer shuts off, straight to black screen with no BSOD. It usually happens when I’m playing intensive games.  All my parts are pretty normal on temps with the exception of maybe my ram at 52c while playing Cyberpunk. 
 

Once it cuts to black it I need to flip the power supply switch to be able to turn it back on. 

I recently got a 3090 and its been running fine so far but it just recently started doing this. It’s crashed on Cyberpunk, Phasmaphobia, Rainbow 6, and The Forest. I capped my frames from 72 to 62 on Cyberpunk and it hasnt crashed since but I also turned off XMP so that might be why. 
 

is this a power supply issue or something else? I figured from what I’ve been reading online that this is most likely a PSU issue. My only other suspect is the motherboard perhaps. I did a mem test on the ram and it came out fine. 

 

Motherboard: Asus z370-e

PSU: Corsair CX Series 750 Watt bronze (its almost 3 years old)

GPU: Nvidia rtx 3090 FE

You have a psu that is in no way shape or form capable of handeling a 3090 (or 3080 maybe a 3070 at best). So basically replace that with a GOOD quality 850w unit or higher and call it a day.

 

 

Get at least a b tier (preferably A tier here) or better unit of at least 850w.

your ram temps are pretty high. Over 50C ram you may encounter major system crashes etc.

Ok and? It's just not high enough wattage people can barely run a 3080 on a rm750 when they have a little higher end cpu's or even a minor oc. A 3090 simply doesn't work on a 750w psu.

Is your PSU the green or the gray version of the CX750? The gray one should be relatively OK if borderline for a 3090, the green one would be problematic.

Well @Stahlmann did run 3080 with rm650x and 3700x just fine. But the psu made coil whine so upgrading to rm850x worked.

 

Edit: Oh I am stupid, OP has 3090 not 3080...

Im not really sure how to go about lowering it. I live in Hawaii so it’s always a bit hot which kinda brings my temps up as it is. What do you suggest? I can try mounting my AIO on the top maybe, if theres room in the case. But other than that idk what to do

what case? Mounting aio on the top and putting good fans on the front should help.

Phanteks p400s with a p500a front panel for airflow.

I was planing on replacing it down the line originally. But they did advertise on Nvidias site that the min req for a 3090 is 750w. Kinda misleading if it cant support it.

A very good 750w unit can run a 3090 but it also totally depends on your other specs. That and 750w is far too underrated from nvidia out anyways too as a 3090 eats over half of that psu's total output with ease. That and they can power spike well above the limit of that psu.

It supports it but it has power and transient spkies aht are so big that cs 750w can not handle it. Atleast decent 850w psu is recommended like corsair rm850x or Leadex III 850w

Heard about the gp series having a fair bit of issues with the new gpu's no matter the wattage. The rmx is overkill. I can't browse bestbuy because europe so not much help here sorry.

They’re roughly the same price so I figured they’re pretty similar. Also I understand! No worries. I appreciate the help.
