Hello my friend is desperately asking me to get him a part list for a computer with a budget of $1600-$1800 AUD (Our prices are dodgy as well as horrible dollar)

So far I have this list. I have not chosen a case as I am unsure which one would be acceptable for what the components are, also he said he is fine with 8GB now but may upgrade to 16GB later.

He also said he isn't fussed about an SSD.

What are your thoughts? What should be changed? What would be an acceptable case that's not too plain.

Get 2x4GB instead of 1x8GB in RAM and it's good.

Get an SSD as boot drive would be my suggestion. Also get 2x4 GB RAM instead of 1x8, for higher bandwidth.

actually I would stick with 1 8 gig.. I coulda used just having 2x 8 gigs instead of 4x 4gigs now that I'm planning to make an ITX build with a cheap mobo.

also the performance difference is minimal.

As said in the OP he isn't fussed.

Get 2x4GB instead of 1x8GB in RAM and it's good.

If he said he will upgrade to 16GB in a month or 2, shouldn't it be best to stay with 1x8GB so he doesn't have to get another 2x4GB and fill up all the Ram Slots?

Only thing I would change is probably get an asus motherboard.

For the case you could go for a Define R4 or an Elite 430 if you're budget won't stretch for an R4.

Yes I was thinking the R4 but I bet in Australia it would be too much. I'll have a look at the other case you recommended.

yes, stick with 1x 8 gig, just ignore them ffs, this ram conversation always gives me headaches.

That's a very good rig. If you have some additional money, get a SSD for booting, maybe spend a little bit more on the motherboard and get an Asus one (I don't mean that Asrock makes bad motherboards) and get 2x4GB memory instead of 1x8GB for a bit higher performance.

As already stated, he is thinking of going to 16GB, and it would just be better for him to chuck one 8GB stick in, also allowing 2 free RAM slots.

The problem with adding a better mobo is there will be no money left for the case.

Nicer motherboard, SSD, and an R4 case, all for about 100 bucks more.

I stuck with your 1x8gb version of the RAM, even though I'd recommend otherwise. Just because you have two matching sticks of RAM, doesn't mean they'll run in Dual Channel.

Either way, here's what I'd recommend.

CPU:  Intel Core i5-4670K 3.4GHz Quad-Core Processor  ($275.00 @ PCCaseGear)

CPU Cooler:  Corsair H100i 77.0 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler  ($145.00 @ CPL Online)

Motherboard:  Gigabyte GA-Z87-HD3 ATX LGA1150 Motherboard  ($143.00 @ CPL Online)

Memory:  Corsair Vengeance 8GB (1 x 8GB) DDR3-1600 Memory  ($112.00 @ CPL Online)

Storage:  Kingston SSDNow V300 Series 120GB 2.5" Solid State Disk  ($95.00 @ Mwave Australia)

Video Card:  Asus GeForce GTX 780 3GB Video Card  ($645.00 @ CPL Online)

Wireless Network Adapter:  TP-Link TL-WDN4800 802.11a/b/g/n PCI-Express x1 Wi-Fi Adapter  ($45.00 @ CPL Online)

Total: $1786.00

Thankyou for that however, he wishes to stay with 2TB and no need for an SSD. Also preferably have all prices at umart goldcoast as we live within 30 minutes from the store (no online ordering need)

Edit: I googled the RAM, it says it is Dual channel compatible.

Not really up to me, it's not my computer its a friends, so I don't want to screw him over. xD

I still wouldn't go with 1x8gb stick. Yes it says Dual Channel compatible, just they're not tested together, verified to work together... They could work, but they could also not.

Again, up to you/your friend. :)

Happy building!
