Battlefield 4 PC DVD is £22 CHEAPER than Origin Download?!?!

MrTomnus

I was looking for the cheapest way to get a copy of BF4 and I just saw this... I have no words. A CD is CHEAPER than a download. CHEAPER?!?!?! What are you doing EA.......

The link on Amazon is not on sale. At least it doesn't say it is.

Pictures here.

Pretty normal

Is it? Seems like completely backwards thinking to me. By doing this they are drawing attention AWAY from their own distribution platform because the competition is £20 cheaper, never mind factoring in the extra cost of making and printing the CD and packaging. Why would you want to do that?

Maybe the version at Amazon is just a download code? That could also be a possibility. In general, you can get games A LOT cheaper if you just purchase codes. I stopped buying hard copies a long time ago, because 8/10 you have a code and have to start the stuff over Steam or Origin anyways and then you have a useless CD and box lying around.

Huh? That's exactly what I'm saying. On Origin the download code is £44, and on Amazon you can have a disc delivered to you for free for just £23! I have plenty of space to keep discs so I'm not fussed about that. I like having a physical collection to display :P

Amazon.co.uk does get to avoid 20% tax as its shipping from jersey, that often accounts for much of the price difference. Once you add that back in Origin is still ludicrous but the game comes up at a much more normal £28.63, which is normal for a PC game on release. Origin just overcharges by 50%, always has.

Its actually becoming standart for AAA games. When digital downloads became normal thing in releasing games everyone thought the prices would come down too. But not really happening. Only indie games benefit from not launching with physical discs. But for big companys its same thing to make them. In some countries they still sell better than digital ones (download speed etc). Then there's this idiotic pricing in Steam and Origin. If game costs $60 in US its pretty normal right? Convert that straight to € and it should be ~53€. Not. Its still 60€ making it more expensive than in US. Ofc there are things like taxes, but still. So for AAA games its better to get them in discs or from some other place than Origin/Steam.

I really hate steam and Origin for this, I don't care if they make less money if I buy the things on game key sites if they're trying to rip people off like that

Origin always charge more because then they aren't the ones sitting on "stock". If they sell codes or copies to others then they have guaranteed sales, even if they don't sell to an end user.

In India, boxed copies of the Digital Deluxe cost 24GPB :)

Origin has plenty of sales, they just don't promote them.

A lot of times they don't even send emails to people who are subscribed to their newsletters

telling them stuff is on sale.

I also find during the early sales process that its cheaper to buy from Amazon the disk than it is to buy on Steam. I think that is mostly tax but even so its almost certain that the boxed copy is cheaper than the one on Steam. Steam isn't as outrageous as Origin is with price gouging but its no saint either. Considering the game will probably register on Steam its just weird to find these differences in price consistently.

Because EA...It was happening on release infact, which is kinda weird. But I spose EA is EA, and they'll try anything.
