Any VR enthusiasts out there?

m1lk3y

Currently I'm running the OG Vive using the Index controllers. Is there anyone out there with an Index HMD that can say whether or not it's worth the upgrade (just the HMD)? Or are there other options that would be a better choice? I've just been trying to do some research and most of what I can find is a mixed bag.

Also a side question: If I end up going with the Index HMD, would upgrading to the Index base stations over my OG Vive ones make a difference? From what I read, the biggest difference was the number and range of tracked items, but if I live alone in a small apartment, that wouldn't really matter right?

If you crave the high end experience, I think the Index is definitely a good purchase. I'm personally unbothered by screen door effect so I don't plan on upgrading any time soon but the Index experience was notably better.

As for tracking, just keep the viva tracking stations, they're fine for plain VR experience, without those little body tracking nodes and all.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

Screen door effect doesn't bother me a whole lot either thankfully. I do enjoy the high end experience, but am struggling to decide if it's worth it since I'm not currently "unhappy" with what I have.

And funny you should mention those. I have three of those pucks, meant for full body tracking and I never had any issues with the base station 1.0's tracking them all. Unless that would change with the index headset. That said I rarely feel the need to get full body tracking on cause it's a lot of effort....

The index would be a noticeable visual and audio upgrade over the OG Vive.

If you want to go balls out the Pimax 8KX would be a huge visual and FOV upgrade but you need a 2080 or better to even bother.
