PCIE Wifi Card ($50)

QuantumBit

I've had a PCI.E WiFi card for a while but it cant go past 60 Mb/s (it's supposed to be ~100). USB wifi don't work any better and running Ethernet is NOT an option. Powerline doesn't work any better either.

The budget is around $50.

Thank you!

Search for the words "ax200ngw desktop" on eBay or such and you'll find items like this one. That's the one I am using myself as well.

Thank you!

What speeds do you get vs. the wifi you pay for?

I don't have a WiFi 6 - router, so I'm only getting ~440Mbps. Still, it's almost reasonable.

Throughput over WiFi will depend on a lot of factors including distance, obstruction and sources of interference, all of which will degrade speed. If you don’t notice much improvement with the new adapter, then it means that one/more of these other factors might be at play.

That being said, WiFi 6 implements a lot of optimizations that might be beneficial if you have pre-6 hardware. Personally, devices that I have upgraded to the Intel AX200 have more stable reception especially at longer distances when connecting to WiFi 5 access points. However, this is purely anecdotal; I haven’t done any formal testing. Now that I’m testing a WiFi 6 wireless router, these range and consistent speed improvements look interesting.
