IT jobs for a 17 techie(Not sure if this goes here?)

Just to give a brief synopsis. I am going to be 17 in a couple of months and I am hoping to get a job this summer to get some experience. I want to get a job in some type of IT or tech support field. Also I live in the U.S. in California if that helps.

Look around local IT repair shops and apply online looking for jobs. Make sure you have all your personal info ready for employers, and having a CompTIA A + certification will help.

suge shashin, my nig

A really good place to check would actually be your high school or college to see if they allow interning. Even if not, they can usually point you somewhere since schools are obviously well connected. Also if you get work study you might be able to get a similar job at your college of choice.

Repair shops are probably going to be boring as hell and scary based off of some testimonies I've heard on here and some of Slick's stories.

you'll probably end up dealing with laptops, dirty computers, and porn viruses, and that's all the boring tedious things to do that deal with computers.

If where you live is dense, you might be able to find a local boutique that will hire you if you have a respectable rig and some experience building, can prove you have the slightest idea of wtf you're doing etc.

Maybe a local PC repair shop. Even if its just doing the non-tech stuff, like cleaning and organizing. If they see you are willing to work and help out, you can start to ask for more technical things, such as imaging pcs, This will get you foot in the door, and if you put in effort, it could go a long way.

That is the bottom up approach, and it has worked for some, but maybe you want to dive right in, so it is up to you.

Much info

When I was 17 I was doing contract work like developing Access databases and web security work. I don't know how feasible it is nowadays but back then there was plenty of programmer work about for the well versed computer whizz kids.

How do you feel about your school?

I'm 17[almost 18] and i work along side the tech guy at my HS.

It started off as on alternative class [that also gave credits] to basically help out the one IT guy at my school with whatever need to be done. you know,... 2.2K kids, 900+ computer 250+ staff 1 IT guy. ಥ_ಥ   it's hell at times

Then next summer I got a job with the school repair and re imaging all the machines in the school.

I'm doing the same thing this next summer But I'm also applying for a paid internship this next school year.

Dare I say it but best buy or a local computer shop might be a place to work too. You'll get experience in the tech market that way.

Haha repair shops aren't that badddd of course you get the occasional "what the hell were you thinking?" customer but having to deal with boring tasks gets to the point its just click this click that and the rest of the time you can just browse the net.
