so you're on Mars and you've got to use solar power or batteries to power the thing, 173 watts at max load but more like 70watts of actual in use power consumption. Less with under-volting.

64GB of RAM with 1.5TB of caching should handle any program doing small chunks of work and offloading to the HDD.

it's not going to be fast but this is what I would build. by the time it gets to Mars from earth it will have at least something to start with and proof of concept to build on the programming (which has more to do with the task than CPU or GPU power)
