Steam controller stops working when runnin ori and the will of the wisps in ubuntu 20.04

I've swited to linux a few months ago and recently continued playing ori. But the game works fine for a total of 10-15 minutes before the game forgets that there is a controller connected, pauses, and I have to restart the whole steam client and go to wherever the last autosave was to continue. How do I fix this? 

 

Note: I think this is because ori and the will of the wisps is not a native linux game. I'm running it through proton
