Do you think I'm crazy?

Go to solution Solved by WaggishOhio383,

Amazon will typically tell you if a package ships in a box that indicates what's inside it, as is the case here. In such a case, they give you an option to ship that box inside another box, which you must have not seen. I think the motherboard itself should be fine though. It looks like a fairly minor dent in the box that occurred during shipping. As long as the motherboard posts and runs fine I wouldn't worry about it.

This is my first big upgrade in 8 years except getting GPU a while back. My RAM and motherboard just arrive, RAM came in standard Amazon envelop and inside factory packaging is sealed. Now on to the motherboard oh my, no amazon box, factory box not sealed, label slapped on factory box and damage to box.

PICS:

I do have to add that motherboard itself looks new and in anti static bag that is tape shut, all accessories and papers look new. I have no way of testing it till I get new CPU so for now I just kept as is. Should I be worried that it got hit and send it back for new one? OR is it common practise now and I just haven't bought motherboard in a while? Thanks for help and don't hesitated to call me crazy.

seems weird, though ive never gotten a new mb. I would ask for a replacement and maybe ask for a refund aswell, as you ordered new.

I could use some help with this!

please, pm me if you would like to contribute to my gpu bios database (includes overclocking bios, stock bios, and upgrades to gpus via modding)

I think by asking this the way you did, you're being way overdramatic and looking for attention :)  You're not crazy.

That said, the box looks like it has taken basic shipping and handling damage.  Nothing to write home about.

I don't think there is anything to worry about, personally.

Sending a bare motherboard box is pretty bad practice and should be inside of another box, doesn't need to be strong just enough to hide what it is, as for the box, that's normal, motherboard boxes don't really come with seals on them incase you want to open and inspect them in a shop, the seal is on the bag itself.

Yours faithfully

100% my mistake, I just went with one more motherboard and they give you option to put in one more box. I had never seen a option like that. As i have till end of January to return it I will wait a buy CPU and go from there. Thank you for all the help and putting my mind at ease.

Test the motherboard. If it works, keep it, but file a complaint with Amazon and say you would like a partial refund because you paid for a new product but received a used one at worst and damaged packaging at best. They're usually really good with giving you sizeable store credit refunds. It's a good customer satisfaction policy and if the motehrboard works it's the best outcome

Thanks for advice. Should I do it now or wait for CPU and do it after testing? As i'm getting 5900X so it may take few weeks before I can test it?

Idk why people do this, buy a motherboard weeks in advance and just wait for a CPU, especially with black friday soon.

I would just return it then. Amazon warranty runs out before you can test it and you're shit out of luck, gotta either deal with the long manufacturer RMA process or just eat the $350 you'll lose lol

I can return it till 31 of January and in UK prices for PC parts been going up for last few months I got it for £300 and you can't get it for less than £340 now. If I can get the same motherboard on black Friday I will just return mine as i'm not getting different model. Plus this is my first upgrade in 8 years so i'm a bit impatient now.

Sure if buying things makes you feel better, but a motherboard without a CPU is a  £300 paperweight, though it seems likely you'll return it anyway.

I'm getting new CPU in 2 weeks and most of the time product I would buy don't get big discounts on black Friday so me getting it now before the price goes up is a smart move. With your logic I would have to buy whole PC same day as not to leave it as a paperweight. Getting new CPU on release date is never a great deal.

I'd like to approach this from a different perspective.  That of one who sells lots of stuff on Amazon, eBay, Mercari, etc., and allows buys a lot from Amazon...

I find it absolutely disgraceful that "Earth's most customer-centric company" ships items in this manner.  Whether it's a $10 calculator or a $350 motherboard, unpackaged items are never acceptable.  I also feel that items in envelopes are unacceptable.  For example, I've ordered a number of video games from Amazon that been shipped in envelopes and arrived with the game's case totally cracked.  When I complain, they say things like "it's just the case," or "it's just the retail packaging."  If you collect video games, you know how important the condition of the game's case or box is.

As far as I'm concerned, what Amazon refers to as "retail packaging," I consider to be part of the item.  That packaging isn't given to you for free.  It's built into the item's price.  I collect Funko Pops.  Any collector will tell you that the Pop box is just as important as the figure inside.  But when Amazon carelessly throws a Pop in a shipping box with no padding and the Pop box ends up destroyed, they don't understand why I complain.

Most items can be resold when a customer is done using them.  Take the op's motherboard, for example.  He can resell that to help him upgrade when the time comes, but thanks to Amazon, the motherboard has lost value before he's even opened it.  In order to get top dollar for this or any used item, it's very important that all original packaging and accessories are present and in pristine condition.  That's not the case here, and once Amazon slapped a shipping label on the retail box, the item ceased being brand new.  So to the op, I say return the board.  You paid for a new item and should accept nothing less.

Again, I sell on multiple platforms and I would be so embarrassed if I perpetuated some of Amazon's shipping practices.  An individual seller who tries to ship items the way Amazon does would receive so many returns and so much negative feedback, they'd be out of business in a month.

I am aware that you can check the box to ship in Amazon packaging on some items, but customers should not be blamed if they don't see that box and don't check it.  That box shouldn't be there in the first place.  The idea that item would be shipped unpackaged is ludicrous to me.  It's amazing that even a Prime membership does not always entitle you to a shipping box.
