Based on the specs in the pic, the 980 Pro should be much better, right? Why is the 970 Pro $120 more?

I'd like to approach this from a different perspective. That of one who sells lots of stuff on Amazon, eBay, Mercari, etc., and allows buys a lot from Amazon... I find it absolutely disgraceful that "Earth's most customer-centric company" ships items in this manner. Whether it's a $10 calculator or a $350 motherboard, unpackaged items are never acceptable. I also feel that items in envelopes are unacceptable. For example, I've ordered a number of video games from Amazon that been shipped in envelopes and arrived with the game's case totally cracked. When I complain, they say t

What’s a good board for Ryzen 5000 that has RGB on the side edges? Or maybe it’s actually on the back and you can see it coming out of the sides. I’ve only seen a couple of these in videos, but whenever I’m researching boards I can never find them. I think maybe the X399 Aorus Xtreme is an example of what I’m talking about, but again, I’m looking for something like this for Ryzen 5000.

Bump?

Would this be a good board for a Ryzen 9 5900X and an EVGA RTX 3080 FTW3 Ultra? EDIT: I think I'd probably want something newer than this board in the same price range. Any suggestions? I like RGB btw.

What do I need to do to upgrade my graphics card?

Fantastic. Thank you! -
Do I need to uninstall the drivers from my 2080 Super before installing my 3080? Is there anything else I might need to do?

I have an i9 9900KF. I wanted to get a 10900K, but I’ve been advised here that that would be a bad upgrade. Would I be better served to wait for Rocket Lake or Zen 3?

Is mine good for 3080? https://www.bestbuy.com/site/evga-1000w-atx-eps-80-plus-gold-modular-power-supply-black/6209800.p?skuId=6209800

I’m not sure I’m going to be able to articulate this very well, but I’ll try. I’m really confused as to how I can make custom effects in iCUE. If I individually set all of the LEDs to different colors, I can’t figure out how to get them to do anything but remain static. Also, I can’t figure out how to edit the effect on each DIMM individually. For example, how would I make the first DIMM red and the second one green? The video below shows my current RAM RGB effects. I have it set to Rainbow Wave, direction down. Notice when the PC is off, each DIMM has a different

Motherboard/PSU Compatibility Question
lerodemmy replied to lerodemmy's topic in CPUs, Motherboards, and Memory
Just to update, I went with the specs I listed previously because I already had the parts ordered, but I swapped out the MB for the MSI Mortar per your recommendation. I really like the board and my mom is quite pleased with the build. This was my second build, first Ryzen build, and first Micro ATX build. It all came together quite nicely with no issues. I probably should've planned out the cable management a little better, though I feel like this case doesn't give great options for managing cables. I added three Thermaltake fans. It took me hours to figure out whe -
Help me pick a motherboard, please
lerodemmy replied to lerodemmy's topic in CPUs, Motherboards, and Memory
This is certainly good advice. I've been pretty gung ho about upgrading the majority of my system lately. I hate that there's newer stuff out there and I don't have it. But then I realized that 11th gen Intel CPUs are expected to launch in the first half of next year. So I would want one of those when that time comes and it really would make the upgrade to a 10900K feel like a pointless waste of money. -
Are these Aorus boards good? I'm plan to get a 3080 and I'm going to unnecessarily upgrade my mobo and CPU in the process. I do some gaming. I use my PC for several hours every day for normal tasks. I don't really do any video editing, but that might change soon. Is there any reason I should go with the Master over the Ultra? Would similar Asus or MSI boards be better choices? https://www.amazon.com/GIGABYTE-Z490-AORUS-ALC1220-VB-Motherboard/dp/B087GY4263/ref=sr_1_2?dchild=1&keywords=GIGABYTE+Z490+AORUS+MASTER&qid=1599755345&sr=8-2 https://www.amazon.c

I’m about to start building a PC for my mom and I have some Corsair XTM50 High Performance Thermal Paste left over from when I built my PC in February. Is it fine to use this with a Ryzen 5 3600 and the included Wraith Stealth Cooler? Should I just apply a pea-sized amount? Do I even need thermal paste if she doesn’t game or do any kind of video editing?
