You probably won't see a performance diffirence, Mantle isn't relevant to your hexacore. Do as you like, if you like the green GTX logo or NVIDIA in general stick with your 780, if you want a change, mine a little bit etc. get his card.

It's pretty appealing, I'm sticking with Bf3 for now, bf4 is pretty much the same game imo.

I've got a 8970m in my laptop, and that's been nothing but a pain in the ass for drivers, I'm assuming it's better on the desktop?

Currently running two 290x's and they are smooth as butter. No driver issues either and that's on constant beta drivers (thanks thief game >.>)

From what I've heard, 290s don't OC well

They tend to heat up like all hell even at reference with a stock cooler. Seeing as it's a Windforce card, it should perform pretty well.

My opinion however? Keep the 780.

Good evening,

So I've recently been offered by mate to trade GPUs.

His offer is his Gigabyte Windforce 290 + $50 (A cup of Coffee costs $3.50 here, for a concept of our dollar value) AUD for my GTX 780 reference.

What would you personally do?

The early gigabyte windforce R7/9 coolers had a design issue that caused them to not cool the card anywhere near what it should (the same if not hotter than stock cooler). Make sure that his is the updated cooler if you decide to trade. I'd personally take that trade if his has the updated cooler.

Sky Pollution | i5 3570k @4.8Ghz | MSi z77a g45 | MSi GTX 770 Gaming 2gb | Samsung 840 Evo 250gb, Samsung OEM 500gb HDD | Corsair CX750m | Corsair 760t White Edition |
Corsair M95 | SuperLux 668b's | Logitech C615 | ViewSonic VX2250wm | Random OEM keyboard until I rage break it and grab another random OEM keyboard from my pile.

From what I've heard, 290s don't OC well

Mine (see sig, note, I prioritize core clocks, mem can go higher but no need) does fine with just air cooling... I'm sure I could easily get past 1200Mhz coreclocks with WC.

I also do not see anything higher than 80*c after hours of usage. Its a beast.

As for OP, its not going to get you any performance difference that's noticible in many games.

So whatever team you support or need features from, go them. Green or red.

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz

Even if it's the old design they issued a recall so you an easily get it replaced. Essentially OP could trade a used 780 for a brand new 290 which is definitely worth it.

Everyone is saying get the 290 and you'll get mantle and you can mine too, but I wanna ask you to ask him why is he trading it with 50 bucks, he doesn't know about the mantle and mining stuff???,  If he's selling coz he just wanna get an nvidia experience and there's nothing wrong with the card than I would say it's a steal, take it from me(look below), mining is really worth it. And you never what's price of that 290 is gonna be in 2 months, you can probably trade it and get two 780's.

Fx-8320 Clocked@ 4.5Ghz, 2 * 4GB Corsair Vengeance Blue, 2 * Gigabyte rev1.0 R9 280x's, 2TB Seagate Drive, Gigabyte 990fxa-ud3 rev4.0 mobo, Fractal design Define R4 with SP120 High Performance Edition In the Side Panel, Corsair AX 860i, Corsair K60 Reds, Razor DeathAdder.

Reference cards don't because of heat issues.

This is not the card with the stock cooler.

I would only get the 290 if I was coinmining or doing CAD Design or doing some OpenCL stuff. Otherwise, it runs really hot and thus consumes quite a bit of power, and the 780 trade blows with the 290, while falling very slightly short in stuff like 3DMark Firestrike.

PC Build
