Hey everyone I'm in the middle of upgrading my router and I need some help.

The router I want to upgrade TO is the black tp-link.

The router I'm upgrading FROM is the grey TM.

The Fiberhome box is the modem (I think)

The problem is that when I take the white cable that is connected to the WAN port on the TM and put in the WAN port on the TP-Link I don't get internet access. As far as I can tell it (the reason why I don't get internet access) has to with this setting in the tether app(TP links app).

PC: Ryzen 5 2600, 16GB 3200mhz RAM (8GBx2), Gigabyte B550M DS3H, GTX 1050 2GB, 650W Semi-Modular PSU80+ Gold

Phone: Poco F3 8GB + 256GB

Audio: Samson SR850s

Sound Card: SoundBlaster Play 4 USB sound card

IEM: planning to get the KBEAR KS2s
Please be patient with me, I'm fatally dumb and its honestly a miracle I've made it this far

Do you have access to a windows machine?

I will recommend an NHu12s (or an NHd15 (maybe)) for your PC build. Quote or @ me @Prodigy_Smit for me to see your replies.

No, don't plug it in the wan port. (Im assuming, from the picture, that the modem is also a router).

Modem -> wan -> Router -> lan

Since the modem is build inside the router, the router already use that wan connection for itself.

This is how it should be :

Modem -> wan -> Router -> lan -> TPLINK -> wifi

So the TPLINK will act as a slave router / repeater or we call them Access Point.

The first step is to change the IP Address for the TPlink so it won't clash with the modem IP address.

Set the ip for the TPlink tp 192.168.0.100 (or some number that arent in the dhcp range of the modem, just an example).

If the modem IP address is 192.168.100.1 you set it to 192.168.100.100 , the third segment should be the same as the modem.

Put it in the regular port and enable Access Point mode in the TPLINK.

Then on the TPlink you set the default gateway to the IP of the modem (192.168.0.1).

Now everything should be connected to the TPlink will get the internet from the modem.

You can change also set a different wifi SSID for the TPlink, so you can select which router to connect in wifi.

Just to clarify some things in case either of us are mistaken.

The Black TP-Link is thr router i want to upgrade TO.

The Grey Networks is the current router.

The White Fiber home is the modem (i think)

The current setup (White Fiberhome and Grey Networks) is as follows:

In the fourth picture you can see a white ethernet cable coming out of LAN 1 on the White Fiberhome, that cable is currently connected to the the WAN port on the Grey Networks. This is how the wifi is right now.

What i have tried to do:

I pulled out the ethernet cable from the Grey Networks WAN port and put in Black TP-links WAN port thinking that it would be as simple as that. The TP-link works fine except when joining the network there is no internet access. The problem seems to be setting up the IP adresses part.

I just wanted to clarify/\go over this again just to make sure neither of us are mistaken.

Yes, there might be issue where the TP Link has the same IP address as the modem.

If the gateway has 192.168.0.1 and same with tplink, how is it going to communicate?

IP address should be unique, you can't have multiple device using the same IP Address on the same network.

Home router / modem usually have ip address either : 0.1, 1.1 or 100.1.

Basically you can plug it in the wan or lan port, it should work the same.

The problem im assuming is the TPlink doesn't sent the gateway info to your computer, because its telling the pc to get the internet from it not the modem.

Do you know how to get to the admin page of the TPlink?

This is a gateway (Modem/router). Also you have DSL, phone line was a clue there. So your probably needing to use PPPoE.

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.

Yes you can, but i'm not familiar with the app.

You can also use the browser to do it.

connect your phone / laptop to its wifi, and type http://192.168.0.1 or http://192.168.1.1.

username and password are "admin" & "admin"

if you change it, go with your password.

Now find something called "operation mode", set it to "access point"

Then on the connection type, set dynamic ip.

Now plug your tplink into the modem lan port (don't use wan).

This video might help you.

@SupaKomputa What if I want to set it as its own router instead of a repeater?

Why? It will work just the same.

Really? Activating access point mode on a wireless router disables the router/DHCP/NAT functions, essentially turning it into a switch with wireless radios. The upstream device will have to handle NAT, so establishing static IP/DNS/gateway addresses should be done on the access point to avoid disconnections when DHCP IP leases expire.
