Asrock B550 Pro4 mATX Vs Gigabyte B550 Ds3h

TheJedi

I decided to go with B550 for my Ryzen Build as that makes sense.

The Two boards I have chosen are the Asrock B550 Pro4 mATX and the Gigabyte B550 DS3H.

Both Boards are Micro ATX however the Asrock one has the better IO (USB 3.2 Gen 2 type C + type A) which I would benefit from.

The Gigabyte does have two M.2 Slots (1x PCIe Gen 4, 1 PCIe Gen 3), rather than 1 Gen 4 on the Asrock, which is a nice feature however I feel I would not use it for a while. And if I did change to an NVME I would only ever buy 1.

I'm inclined to spend the extra £10 for the Pro4 but I want to hear you're opinions

What do you think?

See video below.

the GB has only hdmi and dvi, while asrock has 3 outputs (dp, hdmi and vga) - this may be important if you plan to use it with a cpu with integrated graphics.

The asrock has usb type c on the back and overall two more usb 3.0 ports on the back.

The GB VRM should in theory be better, as it has 5 phases, compared to Asrock's 3 phases ... but the mosfets used on Asrock are a bit better quality and the heatsink is much bigger, making it possible to cool the vrm better, so the Asrock model wins in the end.

yeah, between the two, 10 pounds more seems worth it.

Look into Gigabyte B550M Aorus Pro ... it's probably gonna be around 20-25 pounds more expensive, but worth it.

Yeh, I have seen it, i'm extending my budget with that motherboard, I could have gone with a B450 but decided that B550 was worth more. If budget allows, I will look into the Aorus Pro, if not then I think the Pro4 should do fine hearing from your recommendation

As for the b550 pro4m, you could go for it, but the b550m pro vdh is around 10 bucks more and is better. but if you really can't stretch your budget to 110 quid you could also go with the b550 pro4m.

By Pro4M i assume that you are talking about the micro ATX variant of the B550 Pro4. They don't share the same naming scheme as the B450 series

Yes, because the b550 pro 4 is 120 quid and well im going to assume you're not talking about it because it's over budget.

Thanks, I definitely going to wait until either prices drop or Jan sales to see if I can save any money on components, I was just getting a rough idea

You could wait until the period around Black Friday (last week of November), chances are there's gonna be some discounts around that time.

Save some more money until then, or maybe if you have a job, you could probably apply for a credit card... ideally one which allows you to pay back purchases in several 0% interest payments.

I have a credit card which - if the store accepts/supports it - allows splitting purchases higher than around 200$ (in my local current) in multiple 0% interest payments - for example, a couple months ago I bought a 200$ smartphone and the store split in 9 x ~22$ payments (0% interest) on the card (i could pay all the amount, but it's truly free to do it, so I pay around $50 each month on it).

Thanks but I'm not really into getting a credit card.
