How to Move the OS from a Hard Drive to an SSD

I have a 2TB Hard Drive and I just purchased a 500GB SSD, Is there any way to move only the os and some apps, and not clone everything, because it wouldn't fit.

You will need to remove whatever puts you above the 500GB from your HDD to be able to clone your drive.

Cloning can reduce the partition size but only if it has the room todo so. You will need to make sure the room is there by hand.

only ways i can think of is move all the data to an external drive then shrink the partition in disk management, then clonezilla. or just a new install of windows onto the ssd (may be less work, and you get to start with a bloat free fresh copy of windows.
