Help Choosing Monitor Size and Framerate

Hi guys,

 

I built a rig last Winter (i5 8400, 5700XT, 16 Gigs RAM) and used my existing older 27" 1080p/60hz Samsung Curved Monitor. Right now I wanna do an upgrade, but I'm not sure which option to go.

My workload is a mix of classic office work and Single Player Games (Witcher 3, Borderlands 3, etc.)

 

1. 27" 1440p/144hz: This sounds more future proof and also since I'm working from home sometimes, more space for office work. On the other side the higher resolution would mean I loose a lot of headroom from my GPU for future games (Cyberpunk, etc.) and my rig will get a lot louder compared to right now.

 

2. 27" 1080p/144hz: Right now the Sweepspot: I know a lot of people don't like this resolution to size combination, but I'm pretty used to it and it doesn't bother me so much. But the push for more FPS should be visible also in Single Player Games.

 

3. 24" 1080p/144hz: A little bit smaller but therefore a better resolution to size comparison (Since this is cheaper a dual setup would be possible).

 

Every opinion is appreciated.

A 5700xt is fine for 1440p@144 or even 3440x1440@144. Just be sensible and use medium settings, they look almost identical to ultra anyway and run at several times the framerate. 

 

That being said, lower resolutions are always more 'future proof' because they're less graphically demanding. 

 

24" is okay for 1080p, still fairly sharp. 

 

If you're stoked on Cyberpunk and you love the Witcher 3, it's worth noting that TW3 is getting a remaster and Cyberpunk is reported to have more extensive NVidia feature support than shitty hairworks - actual good Ray Tracing and good DLSS 2.0 support, which will make an RTX 3070 a decent purchase.

I have a ViewSonic 27 1440p 144hz with the rx 5700xt and I wish I got a 24 1080p 240hz. 

 

I have both a msi g241 1080p 144hz and a 27 ViewSonic 1440p I personally can't see a difference both are IPS panels

Do you think in terms of resolution, it is not worth upgrading or in terms of the size of the monitor?

Resolution I really don't see any difference between 27 1440p and 24 1080p but that's just me

I boiled it down to two options:

 

1. 1x LG 27GL850-B

2. 2x AOC 24G2U

 

Both options are pretty similiar in pricing here. 

Right now I tend a bit more to option 2.
