Hello,

I'm currently ordering the different parts to build my first PC.
- I'm building this PC mainly to play FS2020 and future games. I'd also like to use it for web browsing, emails, excel, etc.

-  I've already chosen most of the parts and this is an ITX build (Lian Li TU150, RTX3070 (I'll use a 1660 GTX temporarily), SF750W, 32GB at 3200MhZ, 1TB SSD M.2)

I'm creating this topic, because I've had a hard time choosing which CPU to go with. Here are the reasons why:
- FS2020 seems to run quite a lot smoother with intel high end CPUS (9700K & better)
- I'm assuming this based on the following benchmark  https://gamegpu.com/racing-simulators-/-гонки/microsoft-flight-simulator-test-gpu-cpu   and youtube videos (it's hard to compare using youtube videos, but overall the experience on I7 9700K and better seems to be smoother than with any Ryzen 3000 CPU, and at an equivalent frame rate, Intel CPUs seems to show a lot less micro-stutters)

Now, the obvious choice would have been a 9700K :
+ 50 Eur. cheaper than the 10700K
+ Its motherboard is also about a 100 Eur. cheaper compared to one for the 10700K (I'm looking at ITX Z490 vs Z390)
+ It's easier to cool than a 10700K

However I'm a bit concerned with the lack of additional threads on the 9700K, it could be a problem in the future as next gen consoles would have a more modern micro architecture similar to a 10700K or a 3700X ...

What do you think is the best option in my case ? Has anyone tried FS2020 on their PC and has any feedback ?

Thanks

Multithreading is indeed where the future is heading us.
But its the balance are you willing to spend the extra to have the benefit now, or are you also able to see the benefit of extra cores down the line.
Also thinkin of when you plan on upgrading. If thats in 5+ years get the more cores you gonna buy all new in 3 years go for the cheaper.

When i ask for more specs, don't expect me to know the answer!

i say you have 3 options:

1) ryzen 5 3600 (cheap and good enough)

2) i5 10600k (best current gaming cpu)

3) wait a month for ryzen 4000 series, which might be cheaper and better than the 10600k.

Tbh looking at what (s)he specced out, option 1 and 2 would be a no go.
Waiting for the 4xxx series on the other hand is an excellent idea!

Why is the Ryzen 5 3600 a no go?? I have the Ryzen 5 3600 XD

Look at the first post. Should give an indication as to what type of machine OP wants to build...
Im not saying the 3600 is bad. Just its context!!!

While I typically recommend AMD, Gamer's Nexus' latest video notes that Flight Sim 2020 has a very heavy single core load.  For that reason, I would recommend an Intel CPU due to its high clock speed

Thanks for that info, I've just had a look at it and Gamer's Nexus explanation matches what is shown in the Russian Benchmark : GPU performance seems to be bounded by single core performance. Then Intel it will be

Okay, but be advised that those 5+ GHz Intel processors run warm.  A robust cooling solution is recommended.  If your case is aesthetically pretty but lacks good airflow, you will be in for a bad time.  Looking at that Lian Li TU150 I'm not seeing a lot of ventilation on that case but I don't have one in person so I'm no expert.  If you like Lian Li, something like their Lancool II Mesh has excellent airflow.

Try to have 8 cores. There is currently a glitch with just 4 cores (though that will be patched).

I would recommend a 10700K, 3700X/Zen3 successor or higher.

My 3700X has been handling it perfectly well.

DX12 is also coming so multi threaded support will get better.  Right now, this sim only uses 4 cores heavily and additional cores much less.

Current System: Ryzen 7 3700X, Noctua NH L12 Ghost S1 Edition, 32GB DDR4 @ 3200MHz, MAG B550i Gaming Edge, 1TB WD SN550 NVME, SF750, RTX 3080 Founders Edition, Louqe Ghost S1
