The overalll best Distro for Gaming is Arch, but most because of TKG Package builds for Wine, Proton, Kernel, and Mesa. More beneficial for AMD Graphics, but NVIDIA may benefit some as well. NVIDIA Graphics may aoccasionally have issues however due to Arch's rolling release model.

 

For AMD Graphics, Manjaro will probably have better compatibility and performance with Proton and Lutris than most distros. Mostly because of its more up to date Mesa Builds.

 

For the Average user, PopOS! has the best out of box support however for a pre-setup distro, especially for NVIDIA Graphics. Since your asking, this is probably what you want.

It really doesn't matter what distribution you are using, to actually play the game.

Linux is Linux at the level that are differences when playing games.

 

You probably want a pretty intuitive distro when it comes to non-gaming though.

 

If you've never tried linux before go with Kubuntu, stick with it for a few months and by that time you'll know what you want for yourself.

Variances in packages can determine how well a game runs on what hardware, so your statement isn't valid. With that logic, Ubuntu 8.04 would be the equivalant of 20.04, which we all know isn't true.

Diffrent distibutions can also give you access to 3rd party packages that may or may not improve your overall experience with things such as Wine and Proton.

Prob Manjaro would be your best bet for gaming

Manjaro has worked great for games for me. Mint had some weird things last I tried it (can't turn off mouse accel, only turn it down). Try getting a few USB sticks, putting some different distros on them, and seeing what seems most suited for you, then stick to that.
