What is real ip ?
8 hours ago, Adipic Acid said:My ISP is telling me that I have Real IP. What does Real IP mean ? How I will be benefited by that ? Asking those questions, they tell that yeah you will me benefited and we will give you a dedicated line. But no clear answer such you will get this or that. It is like a give more money and you will be in eternal peace.
So I want to know what benefits I will get using Real IP ? And what is dedicated connection ? What extra I will get in dedicated connection ?I read in some websites to check my port in utorrent application and use the port number in https://www.canyouseeme.org/ to see if my IP is real. I tried and that says : I could not see your service on *****(my ip) on port (****)(my port number from utorrent app). Does this works ? https://www.canyouseeme.org/ says they check if port is open or closed. Does ports being closed or open have a relation with dedicated connection or Real IP ?
I am not a network nerd. So please explain if there is any term of networking in your answer. Thanks in advance.
What they are problably referring to is you have a Public IP address assigned to your modem/gateway. Some people are not so lucky. Most US cellular providers do what's called carrier grade NAT. Where they share a public IP address with multiple customers. Public IP addresses are the only ones that can be routed over the internet. Private addresses would be use for Carrier grade NAT, OR used by your own router to do NAT. NAT basically allows you to share 1 internet IP will multiple machines. In your case your router/gateway would allow you to share your ISP's connection with all the machines in your home.
The canyouseem.org is reporting open/closed ports. This is more for firewall usage. For example if you wanted to run lets say a Minecraft server, it would need to be assigned a port number and the people connecting to it would need your IP address. You would then forward the port in your router and your OS so that when the service is running the port is open so people can connect.
