Looking for a Sata or M2 drive suggestion.

Calranthe

Hello,

So this is the last part of my new build that I need advice with, thank you for any advice :)

I need a 1TB drive either M2 or SSD it needs to be able to handle large file transfers at full network 1GB speed and editing, size of raw files will be between 30gb - 70gb 1440p raw Video, PC being used with it will be my new build, AMD 3950x, 32gb 3600 DDR 4, X570 Tomahawk board.

It is a gaming/streaming/transcoding/editing setup, this particular drive will be specifically for the raw footage while editing and transcoding.

I only really know about the budget nvme ssds so I cant personally recommend one for this use case, but take a look at this thread with the majority of high quality SSDs. It has been a few month without update, but it still seems pretty accurate (to me at least).

I am far from an expert in this so please correct me if I’m wrong.

Quote or tag me so I can see your response

either M2 or SSD

M.2 if a form factor. SATA and NVMe are the interface types. There are M.2 SATA drives, so M.2 alone doesn't mean anything. They're all SSDs.

For a editing scratch drive the PCIe Gen 4 drives would be a good choice.

Some examples:

Corsair MP600

Sabrent Rocket 4.0

Gigabyte Aorus Gen4

ADATA XPG Gammix

Seagate FireCuda Gen4

If someone did not use reason to reach their conclusion in the first place, you cannot use reason to convince them otherwise.

A "Editing scratch drive" I am stealing that term and remembering it, sounds like a good idea time to check prices then budget. Thank you.

Sabrent Rocket 4.0 looks nice and easily available.

That's a good choice. If it's available you can go for it.
