What would YOU do...?

To summarise a long story... back in May, last year I (short version) swapped out a 1050ti & a Philips 241E (1080p) monitor for a Vega 56 & a 32" curved AOC 1440p monitor (see my profile for the specifics).

Looking back & given what's now - and soon to be - available, what graphics card would I be better off using?

Assuming your not wanting to spend any money, and your having no issues with the 56, keep it. Its still an OK card, which has more performance than a 1050 ti. As for the new cards most of those features won't come to the 1000 Series soon if at all so most of the benefits won't be gathered by you.
If you are willing to spend money, wait for reviews and depending on how much you are willing to spend buy a second hand card instead.

Between the 1050Ti and Vega 56? I think the answer's pretty clear cut, unless you specifically needed a VP9 decoder or were streaming using your GPU.

I'm not looking to get the latest card "because it's out", just wondering if a "2060/2070" would've been a better card; given that any 4GB-or better VRAM card will be more than capable of suiting my needs.

If i had money to blow in your situation i'd get a 2070 Super and sell the Vega 56 to recoup some of the cost.

Ok so if your willing to spend a little bit of money, this is a tricky one 2000 Series is going really cheap as people are getting too hype for 3000 Series (which is why I sorta want it to be a bit of a let down because I just want to see the out roar) but if its not quite as good as people are expecting 2000 Series price might go up or if it is as good the second hand 2000 Series might go down further. In the end I would wait because I recon it will stay the same or be the latter but I would say maybe even look at the 1000 Series as the diffrence between 1000 and 2000 is very small and you might get a 1000 for cheaper.

Don't get me wrong, I'm OK with the Vega 56... it's just that the whole generation of cards it came from seems to have been a bit of a 'flop' for AMD & am wondering - with hindsight - if I would've been better staying nVidia.

I think I may wait for the 30xx dust to settle & see what state it leaves 2070's in, next year...

upgrading when you need it, not when you want it, is the best way to be economical and still be happy

I just picked up a factory-sealed HP RTX 2080 off of Craigslist. For 350USD. Check around your area, I saw some other cheap Turing cards for sale as well.

It depends on how much you are willing to spend. If you're fine with the Vega 56, I see no reason why you should upgrade.
